About Barrier Free Living (BFL)
Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and non-residential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence. Services include case management; housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short- and long-term individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare,
law enforcement, and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services. About Barrier-Free Living Apartments (BFLA) BFLA is a supportive housing program. BFLA offers services to vulnerable and needy populations with disabilities who are survivors of domestic violence, specifically, homeless disabled adults and disabled veterans and for families who have a head of household with a disabling medical condition. BFLA program is physically designed and equipped to serve people with physical disabilities. This program’s facility is located in the South Bronx. There are two buildings: a 70- unit studio apartment building for adult singles and a 50-unit apartment building for families. BFLA’s supportive housing program is located on Cypress Avenue and East 138 th.

Role Summary
Director of Social Services leads and supervises the social services department in the family building.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide supervision to clinical team including master and bachelor level staff and interns;
  • Facilitate clinical team meetings;
  • Facilitate case conferences with tenants;
  • Collaborate with occupational therapy, family services, and residential aids throughout the program;
  • Ensure that monthly and quarterly reports are prepared in timely mannerfor DOHMH;
  • Maintain schedule of clinical staff, including on-call rotation;
  • Perform crisis intervention with staff & tenants as needed;
  • Coordinate services with other members of multidisciplinary team;
  • Ensure all case files meet regulatory compliance and best practice standards including progress notes, service plans and assessments;
  • Assesses and coordinates social services staff training needs with the program director;
  • Administrative duties, as needed;
  • Alternate on-call responsibility; and
  • In the absence of the Program Director, responsible for oversight of the program.

Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
  • Minimum 5 years of post Masters experience, preferably working with victims of domestic violence and/or people with disabilities or equivalent experience
  • Preferred prior supervisory experience
  • Ability to supervise master level students
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Domestic Violence experience preferred
  • Child welfare experience preferred
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Open to working with diverse populations
  • Bilingual (Spanish or ASL speaking) preferred

Work Environment: This position will spend time at the program site and have an independent (private) office.
