Doctoral Researcher in the field of Batteries and/or Printed Electronics

to join us in the Advanced Electronics Centre at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE).

ITEE pioneers ICT technologies that shape the sustainable and secure digital future. Our world-class research and education target core ICT areas of measuring, electronics and materials, 5G and 6G wireless communications, artificial intelligence, systems, software and experiences.

About the job

The work will focus on developing novel fabrication methods for battery cells. As a doctoral researcher, you will work with the latest battery active materials developed by our renowned collaborators. You will also join a multidisciplinary research group of chemists, engineers, and materials scientists, providing an excellent environment for your professional growth and development. In addition, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in a unique, European-scale battery laboratory facility.

As a doctoral researcher, you will be involved in:

  • Developing inks and slurries for battery layers and structures

  • Performing printing trials and optimisation runs to achieve optimal performance

  • Analysing and optimising interfacial interactions in battery components

  • Conducting an in-depth characterisation of the fabricated structures

  • Publishing your results in international journals and presenting at conferences

Who are you?

We expect the candidate to have a verifiable basic knowledge and experience in batteries and/or printed electronics. Possession of both will be considered an advantage.

Specifically, we require from you:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Process Engineering, Physics, or related fields. A Master's degree must have been completed before the start of the doctoral researcher's work.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 3 years as of 01.01.2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approximately. 2600-3000 € per month (before taxes). A 6-month trial period is applied to the position.
