The Hotel

The Viking Hotel is located 4km from Waterford City Centre and just 7km from the M9 motorway. The hotel offers a perfect base for both business and leisure guests. We have 98 rooms in total that are tastefully designed with the comfort of home in mind. The Wooden Pestle Bar & Restaurant recently underwent a makeover and has a great atmosphere which is enjoyed by residents and locals alike. Our front of house areas are tastefully designed and provides the perfect backdrop for our team to welcome every guest who walks through the door!

The role

This is a Full Term fixed term 12 month position over 7 days a week.

This is an exciting role with wide ranging responsibilities and the opportunity to get involved in all sides of managing VIKING Hotel Waterford.

Some of the activities the successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Assisting the General Manager & Operations Manager in the everyday running of the property as a profit driven, customer focused, team oriented business.
  • Involving yourself in the day to day management of the hotel.
  • Keeping an eye on the product and service offering to ensure we are consistently exceeding customer expectations and retaining an edge over competitors.
  • Assisting with team training and development
  • Nurturing a good working relationship with all staff and with the local community.
  • Taking a leadership role in managing daily business of the hotel and communicating details of this business to each department.
  • Assist with weekly stock control alongside the Food and Beverage management Team
  • Participate in the menu preparation process for booked business.
  • Promoting a culture of learning and development amongst the team where all members feel that they are fully equipped to work to their best potential within their roles.
  • Being aware of everything that it takes to make VIKING Hotel a safe place to work and stay. Complying with company regulations regarding fire, health and Safety, Hygiene and security, including routine fire walks and security checks in accordance with company policy.

About The Role

Is this role for you? Here are the key criteria we are looking out for:

For this role it is important that you have at least two years of experience as a Hotel Duty Manager or Food & Beverage Supervisor.

Experience with the Opera system would be ideal, but isn't 100% essential as training can be provided.

Working as a hotel Duty Manager involves a lot of multi tasking - you would have to be comfortable with that.

As the role involves processing detailed information, the ability to focus and record detail is very important.

Being fluent in English is essential for this role.

A warm and friendly, happy and caring disposition is very important.
