Early Childhood Educator

Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Teacher to join our diverse Wiggles team. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children, fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development. This role requires strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to guiding and exploring alongside children in an early learning environment.

Responsibilities

Logistics

  • Ensure the Centre is operating according to Saskatchewan Child Care Regulations and centre policies.
  • Ensure children are signed in and out accurately each day and adjust in Lillio if necessary as well as inform the Director of early drop offs and late pick ups from contracted times.
  • Ensure children have been signed in and out of school each day on Lillio.
  • Complete cleaning chores of the classroom and the centre.
  • Ensure the overall safety and well-being of children enrolled in the centre.
  • Maintain up-to-date standards and practices and continue to train and upgrade skills and abilities.
  • Maintain a physical space of the facility and ensure it is free of hazards and potential dangers.
  • Report all injuries, accidents, and health concerns immediately using the appropriate recording practices and ensure that parents are informed of incidences on the same day of the occurrence.
  • Adhere to all procedures and policies of the centre and Saskatchewan Childcare Regulations.
  • Report any suspected incidents of child abuse to the Director.
  • Daily classroom cleaning duties and other cleaning tasks as delegated.
  • Cooking meals and preparing snacks for the children when delegated (in the absence of the cook).
  • Developmental program planning for the upcoming week based off of the children’s interests.
  • Additional duties set out by the Director.
  • Participate in Professional Development opportunities independently or when requested by the Director.
  • Ensure classroom emergency exit is clear of snow and ice, use ice melt on stairs when icy, sweep stairs of rocks, etc. each day.

Children's Wellbeing

  • Ensure children are supervised by an ECE at all times, never leave a child alone in a room or send to another floor of the building alone (Schooler children are the exception).
  • Provide many varied opportunities for the children to communicate.
  • Facilitate the development of self-control in children.
  • Help design an appropriate program to promote the healthy development of all children while attending the centre.
  • Arrange a minimum of one excursion a month and fill in essential paperwork, inform families, acquire signatures and excursion ratios at all times.
  • Document observations of children to monitor the development of children in the centre.
  • Interacts continually with the children and encourages their involvement in all activities.
  • Responds quickly and directly to children’s individual needs, desires and social cues by adopting responses to each child’s differing styles and abilities.
  • Nurture each child with sincerity, warmth and consideration.
  • Communicate with children in a friendly and calm manner.
  • Provide many opportunities for the children to communicate and facilitate their communication by sitting low, kneeling and making eye contact.
  • Listen to children talk about their feelings and frustrations and help them to label their emotions.
  • Be alert to signs of undue stress in children’s behaviour and aware of appropriate stress-reducing activities and techniques.
  • Assists in the preparation and follow-through of daily activities.
  • Provide outside time every day and encourage children to explore their natural world.
  • Responsible for the health, welfare and safety of the children.
  • Maintain an awareness of and record each child’s special interests and developmental progress.
  • Facilitate a child’s successful completion of tasks by providing support, focused attention, physical proximity and verbal encouragement.
  • Recognize and respect each child’s different needs, interests and developmental level.
  • Plan for increasing independence as children acquire new skills and build on existing ones.
  • Facilitate the development of self esteem by expressing respect, acceptance and comfort for children regardless of behaviour.
  • Maintain child safety and guide children in personal safety techniques.
  • Maintain and promote a child’s personal hygiene including regular diapering, toileting, cleaning of hands and the face, etc.
  • Assist with overall supervision of toileting, potty training, and hand washing as well as keep records for parents/guardians.
  • Assist in lunch and snack times following Food Safe practices and keep records for parents/guardians who require these records.

Social

  • Ensure the implementation of an inclusive program and environment that meets the needs of all the children.
  • Provide support to children and fellow ECEs in ensuring a safe learning environment.
  • Be a positive role model and guide for children, staff, parents/guardians, and the community.
  • Works with other staff members to form a positive, open, and supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensure effective communication with families through the implementation of a variety of methods such as in-person and Lillio.
  • Actively participate in the WhatsApp logistics chat daily beginning on Sunday at 7 pm and ending on Friday at 7 pm to communicate with the Director and centre staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times on all issues.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with the community at large and participate in the
  • community’s development.
  • Respond appropriately to disclosure and/or confidential information.
  • Support parent practices to the best of your ability and work with families on mutual grounds that are in the best interest of the child.

Experience

  • Previous experience in childcare or early childhood education is preferred, but not required - we are more than happy to help get you started in your ECE journey.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and inspire young learners.
  • Proficiency in English for effective communication with children and families.
  • Ability to write clear lesson plans and documentation related to student progress.
  • Familiarity with computer operation for programming, professional development and parent communication apps.
  • Excellent time management skills to balance multiple responsibilities effectively.

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Sun Safe Certificate

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00-$28.52 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
