Overview

Position Summary

The EI Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate practices in the classrooms under the direct supervision of the Program Manager. They will lead the classroom team in all aspects of the class including interaction with children, facilitation of play, monitoring child progress and communicating with families. Regular attendance is an essential part of this position. The EI Teacher works 20 hour/per week on Mon - Thur from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm and four (4) hours plan time.

Organization Description

United Services for Children is a nonprofit organization that provides pediatric therapy and early intervention services to children of all abilities and offers support services for their families. We focus on children ages birth through 15 years old. Our center is located at 3340 Harry S. Truman Blvd, St. Charles MO, serving approximately 300 children annually.

Working Conditions

Typical working conditions are standard for classroom/office environments.

Must be able to:

- Frequently traverse between classrooms, playgrounds, and offices

- Converse in person, via teleservices, direct message, and telephone

- Observe and respond to the physical/emotional needs or behaviors of children

- Able to perform fine motor tasks typical for the preschool setting, for example: diapering, handle small manipulatives, cleaning tasks

- Readily moves into various positions (i.e., sitting on floor, in a small chair, getting on child’s level etc.) to work with children

- Sit at a table/desk for a minimum of one hour and up to three hours

- Safely lift, carry, or move 10 lbs. consistently and up to 45 lbs. occasionally

- Be able to push and pull up to 25 lbs. frequently

Requirements

Responsibilities

The EI Teacher:

- Engages in playful interactions with children to develop rapport and relationship

- Plans developmentally appropriate activities that support the IFSP/classroom goals

- Leads multidisciplinary team in planning and implementing all classroom routines/groups/activities

- Implements modifications and adaptations to ensure that all students can participate and be successful in the classroom

- Monitors and documents progress of children and maintain required paperwork

- Communicates critical information in a timely manner to multidisciplinary team

- Communicates regularly with families to build rapport, and to share child’s progress, developmental information and at home activities

- Maintains confidentiality of all students in accordance with agency policy

- Operates independently when supervising a group of children, continually determining what actions need to be taken to maintain order and ensure safe play

- Models a standard of behavior consistent with agency expectations

- Other duties may be assigned.

Education Qualifications

Minimum of nine college credit hours in Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Early Childhood, Child/Human Development, or CDA credential. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience Qualifications

One year of documented experience working with children with disabilities aged 0 – 5 years and their families is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable in principles, methods, and procedures for child development and early childhood special education. Knowledge of First Steps requirements and procedures is preferred.

Skills: Requires effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to appropriately supervise and engage children with disabilities. Strong observation and organization skills also required. Must be able to work and solve problems independently and as a team.

Abilities: Must be able to relate to parents in a professional manner, provide guidance/supervision to teacher assistants, and coordinate with other professionals in a team; establish rapport with children and co-workers; access and utilize computer software and stay current with changes in technology.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.80 - $24.85 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
