Economist Specialized In Inflation Analysis
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our inflation analysis team in the Monetary Policy Section (REFGP) at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) from March 2025 to February 2026. Our team supports senior management by preparing monetary policy briefings for ECB Governing Council meetings and responding to various ad-hoc requests on monetary policy and inflation-related issues. In addition to these responsibilities, REFGP conducts independent research in this field, with team members regularly presenting at conferences and publishing in scientific journals.

Your tasks

  • Prepare and present monetary policy briefings for OeNB senior management.
  • Contribute to policy notes, presentations, ad hoc reports, and speeches for OeNB senior management.
  • Conduct independent research on inflation and its determinants, supporting both ongoing and future policy-relevant discussions.
  • Produce well-founded, policy-oriented analyses, studies, and research papers for OeNB official publications and other relevant external publications.
  • Develop and maintain models for policy analysis, along with analytical tools such as dashboards.
  • Participate in Eurosystem-wide taskforces, research networks, or expert groups on inflation-related topics.

Your Background

  • A Ph.D. in economics or a closely related field
  • Experience in inflation analysis is not required but would be highly valued
  • Strong interest in inflation analysis and research
  • Proficiency in advanced software packages such as R, Stata, Python, or Matlab
  • Experience working with large datasets and familiarity with quantitative methods commonly used in economic research, such as business cycle models and time series analysis
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • A collaborative mindset with a commitment to supporting team objectives and fostering open, trusting relationships within and across teams
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English
  • Working languages are English and German, Basic command of German and readiness to become proficient in German

According to Austrian law, it is required to post a minimum salary, which for this position is 58.200 EUR (MA-Level) for full-time (38,5h/week). If you have higher qualifications and relevant previous experience, you may be offered significantly higher pay.
