Editorial Assistant (Paternity Cover)

Editorial Assistant - 7 month paternity cover (starting April 2025)

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and conscientious individual to join our friendly and highly successful Mantle team on a full-time, fixed-term contract to cover parental leave.

Your team:
This is an exciting time to join the ambitious, collaborative and friendly team of Mantle, home to major established bestsellers along with the very best debuts set to become the stars of the future.

Your role:
In this busy and wide-ranging role you will be responsible for the smooth running of our administrative and editorial processes. You will learn about all aspects of a book’s life, from acquisition to publication.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Assisting with editorial and administrative tasks, e.g. editing and drafting cover copy, preparing manuscripts and offsets for handover, bound proof mailouts

  • Assisting the Mantle team with creating catalogue information, scheduling and updating Pan Macmillan’s internal database and Title Information sheets on the Biblio publishing system

  • Arranging author meetings and other in-house and external meetings, including booking taxis and couriers

  • Ordering copies of published titles for authors and agents

  • Reading and reporting on submissions

  • Carrying out any other administrative duties that are commensurate with the scope of the role.

Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

  • Excellent administration skills with the ability to organise, prioritise and manage workflow

  • Highly literate and well-read, with a good understanding of Mantle's list

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Brilliant copywriting skills

  • Passionate about books and ideas, intelligent, quick and keen to learn

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to keep stakeholders informed and on-side

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Like working as part of a team and be prepared to contribute ideas.

Desirable skills we’d love you to have:

  • Familiarity with Biblio, MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Adobe and the Google suite

  • Evidence of working with bespoke in-house systems and/or willingness to learn

  • Basic knowledge of the book market.

This is a 6 month fixed-term role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
