Electronics/Optics Assembler

Position: Electronics/Optics Assembler

Position Overview:

Lumedica, Inc is a growing, Durham-based biomedical imaging start-up that develops and builds low-cost optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems for the research and ophthalmology markets. We are looking to hire a qualified assembler who has a passion for and basic knowledge of photonics technology. Experience working under a quality system (ISO 13485 or 9001) and GMP is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to manufacturing production of optical imaging systems, working alongside a team of technicians and assemblers, and ensuring all medical imaging systems are built in accordance with quality system.

  • Assemble, build, and ship OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) imaging systems on time and with high quality.
  • Follow detailed instructions to assemble parts into sub-assemblies, units, or systems.
  • Assemble fiber optic and free space optical sub-assemblies and systems.
  • Electrical wire and cable routing skills and the understanding of standard wiring workmanship as it pertains to quality.
  • Working with parts which require special care in handling including ESD procedures.
  • Work closely with engineering personnel in the modification and repair of sub-assemblies and systems
  • Test sub-assemblies and finished systems.
  • Document assembly and test results within quality system.
  • Cross-train and flex across functions based on development and business needs.

Required skills:

  • Basic understanding of integrated systems with mechanics, optics, and electronics.
  • Must be able to interact and contribute within a small team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Precision soldering
  • Ability to read and follow assembly drawings and blueprints
  • Wiring and cable harnessing
  • PC (windows) desktop skills
  • RMA Troubleshooting (Photonic and Electronics)

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum high school degree, preference given to AA Degree in electronics and/or photonics.
  • Prefer work experience in medical device or analytical instruments.
  • Prefer experience working within a quality system.
  • Strong written, verbal, and communication skills.
