Employer Liaison / Job Developer

The Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative is a registered community workers co-operative with a mandate to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate support to immigrant and refugee families from around the world. We are a grassroots and hands-on organization that believes in fostering genuine empowerment and often long-term relationships with our clients, communities, and each other to increase the health of individuals, families, and communities.

We are seeking an Employer Liaison/ Job Developer for a full-time contract position (162.5 hours per month)

Job Summary

Who are you? 

Working as a member of the teaching team in a multi-dimensional English for Employment Project is both challenging and very rewarding work. It requires a warm heart and a clear mind and a deep willingness to learn not just new skills, but about yourself and others. To be able to flourish in the work, you will need to be able to tolerate uncertainty and to break new trails where none have been before. These are some of the qualities you need to have:

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the MCHB
  • Knowledge of/experience with employment challenges of adult immigrant and refugee newcomers
  • Demonstrated success in networking with employers
  • Demonstrated success in supporting adults with barriers to employment
  • Ability to build effective relationships with both employers and clients
  • Understanding of current political and economic landscape in locally and federally and how that impacts employment trends
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the issues of immigrant and refugee newcomers
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • High degree of initiative and resourcefulness
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Office 365 programs (Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Publisher, etc.), Zoom, Google Suite, Adobe and Canva. Typing, printing, photocopying, and troubleshooting abilities are a must.

What will you do? 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Work as part of the employment team with a group of 14 adult language learners (per session) to secure employment upon graduation from the program
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with employers to streamline access to interviews 
  • Facilitate connections between learners and suitable employers
  • Establish a network of connections in the employment sector
  • Prepare marketing material for the program
  • Prepare learners for job interviews
  • Provide individual coaching sessions for culturally distant learners who need to talk through job expectations in a Canadian context
  • Provide consultation around employment to other MCHB Brokers and program coordinators
  • Provide data, summaries, and reflections for reporting 

Qualifications

  • Employment counselling Diploma/Training or University Degree in a related field
  • Recent engagement with the Employment Sector in Edmonton for a minimum of two years

Remuneration

Pay Rate:  $28- $35/hour, depending on experience

Hours: 162.5 hours per month (negotiable); Flexible schedule

Contract Term: 1-year contract with a possibility of renewal depending on funding
