A century of support and innovation

Our people and culture reflect our purpose – to support veterans and their families through care, commemoration and camaraderie.

Powered by Australia’s most successful prize home lottery, we have the resources to reach our ambitious goals. As a member of our team, you’ll have access to advanced technology, skilled co-workers, interesting projects and the opportunity to expand your career.

And most importantly, you’ll be making a real difference in the lives of veterans and their families.

Why work at RSL Queensland:

Open, supportive, empowering, and deeply purpose driven — that’s how our team describes working at RSL Queensland. You’ll also have:

  • Option to salary package up to $15,900 per year on living expenses, and claim further tax-saving benefits on top
  • You’re gifted 3 additional days of leave at Christmas!
  • Bespoke training/development opportunities
  • Bring your whole authentic self to work each day and be part of a supportive environment
  • Financial support and study leave to undertake higher educational courses related to work
  • Work in an environment that values all voices – have an influence, be the difference!
Now, a bit about the role:
As an Engagement Officer, you'll be the key link between RSL Queensland and our Sub Branch network across North Queensland, helping veteran communities remain connected, sustainable and positioned for the future.

Working closely with volunteer leaders, District representatives and Sub Branches, you'll provide practical support, strategic guidance and tailored solutions that strengthen member engagement, build capability and deliver meaningful outcomes for veterans and their families.

As a trusted advisor and relationship builder, you'll help connect Sub Branches with the resources, training and support they need to thrive.
As part of the League Development team, accountabilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Provide guidance on future planning, strategic development and governance considerations
  • Identify and help resolve challenges, including logistical and financial issues
  • Support member retention and engagement strategies
  • Promote participation in community initiatives and veteran-focused programs
  • Facilitate positive relationships with local councils, community groups and political representatives
  • Support Sub Branches to plan and deliver activities, programs and initiatives that meaningfully engage the veteran community and strengthen local connection
  • Support compliance with ACNC and other relevant regulatory reporting requirements
  • Connect Sub Branches with RSL Queensland resources, training and support services to build capability and long-term sustainability
This is a permanent, full-time position designed to be highly connected and collaborative, which is why the role is based onsite in our Townsville office, with regular travel across the broader North Queensland region to support our Sub Branch network.

Based in one of Australia's largest Defence and veteran communities, this role provides a unique opportunity to influence positive outcomes for veterans and their families across North Queensland.

What's required to succeed If you're a relationship-driven professional who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving and making an impact, this is your opportunity to contribute to a trusted organisation supporting those who have served.

We strongly encourage applications from ADF veterans, Reservists and professionals with experience in stakeholder engagement, business development, community development, local government, membership organisations or the not-for-profit sector.
To be successful, you'll bring:
  • Relevant history of training and/or service in the ADF or a close connection; or demonstrated experience working with current or ex-service personnel in a similar role which has created a strong understanding of the issues facing our veterans and their families
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel, to undertake administration tasks relevant to the role
  • Ability to read and understand annual reports, basic legislation/policy and profit and loss statements
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships
  • Proven experience working in a flexible, unsupervised capacity while managing complex issues with competing interests
  • Current Driver Licence
  • A valid Working with Children Card (or eligibility to obtain one)
  • Ability to travel to meet regional requirements
  • Ability to work weekends and out-of-hours on an ad-hoc basis
Embracing collaboration and innovation, we work as one to lead the change veterans need. We're not afraid to go the extra mile or seek better ways of doing things. We look out for each other; we value all voices and respect perspectives that may differ from our own; and everything we do, we do with heart.

If this is an opportunity that excites you, please apply today.
