Design & Engineering

CPP has the largest in-house design and engineering team of any contractor in Australia, with over 170 specialists across Electrical Primary and Secondary, Civil, Structural, and SCADA disciplines. We provide end-to-end engineering solutions for high-voltage infrastructure, from nationally significant transmission projects, HV substations, wind farms and battery storage systems that drive Australia’s renewable energy transition.

Our engineers work closely with construction and operations teams, ensuring designs are practical, constructible, and continually refined through real-world feedback. The Opportunity

A genuinely rare opportunity to step into a senior Engineering leadership position with significant influence on business direction, engineering strategy, and future capability delivering high-voltage substation, transmission lines, and renewable balance of plant projects that support the growth of Australia’s renewable energy and utility sectors.

Reporting reporting directly to the Executive General Manager – Engineering, you will be instrumental in leading and developing an established, high performing QLD team within a safety‑first environment that genuinely values engineering excellence, collaboration and innovation.

As our Engineering Manager for QLD, you will lead teams across Primary, Secondary and Commissioning disciplines. You will be accountable for design quality, people leadership, engineering governance, and strategic contributions to the business – with the opportunity to shape teams and leaders, not just projects.

Key focus areas include:
Your focus will be on setting clear direction, removing barriers, developing capability, and ensuring teams are high‑performing and collaborative, while actively role‑modelling CPP’s values of Teamwork, Integrity, Sustainability and Innovation.
You will oversee design development across substations, transmission infrastructure and renewable energy projects, ensuring high‑quality, compliant engineering deliverables, managing divisional and project budgets, and driving Australian engineering standards, continuous improvement and innovation.
You will support the development and execution of divisional strategy, embed best‑practice engineering governance across teams, and contribute to future‑focused planning, capability development and optimisation.
You will build strong, collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal stakeholders, act as a trusted technical escalation point for Engineering Services, ensure customer needs are understood and met through design outcomes, and lead the collection and review of customer feedback to drive continuous improvement.
As a key member of CPP’s senior leadership team, you will work closely with construction, commissioning and other stakeholders to balance technical excellence with commercial and schedule realities, ensuring engineering integrates seamlessly with broader project delivery.
You will actively participate in the tendering process, taking accountability for design inputs and technical review across all engineering‑related tender documentation.
You will undertake interstate travel to offices and project sites to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, critical to long‑term integration and success across the business.

Skills and Experiences:
About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent discipline.
Chartered / Professional Engineer Status (mandatory).
10 + years’ experience across HV design.
Experience working within an Australian utility or an Electrical Engineering EPC Contractor delivering Transmission substations or renewable grid connection projects.
Proven experience leading large multi-disciplinary engineering teams across technical, commercial and executive stakeholder groups.
Commercial awareness and strong budgetary acumen.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
A passion for developing people, lifting capability and driving continuous improvement.
Based in QLD or willing to relocate (relocation assistance available).
