Engineering Manager Backend (Hands On)

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 4-5 backend engineers who are responsible for building and scaling the infrastructure that powers image storage & security for our printing app and blog app, as well as managing the interfaces with our growing network of worldwide print service providers.

As the Engineering Manager, you will guide your team to ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency, while also fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on role, hence 60-70% of your time is expected to go into individual contribution and hands-on backend development

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead the design and development of scalable image storage solutions to support our printing and blog applications.

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of reliable, secure APIs for interfacing with our worldwide network of print service providers.

  • Contribute to the development and actively participate in the execution phase of the features and projects

  • Manage, mentor, and support a team of 4-5 backend engineers, helping them grow professionally through feedback, goal setting, and career development. Conduct regular 1:1s, manage performance reviews, and ensure the team is aligned with company goals.

  • Drive the continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and automation to enhance team productivity and code quality. Proactively identify and mitigate risks to service stability and performance.

YOUR BAG OF TRICKS

  • Strong leadership skills and 2-3 years experience leading a small team of engineers.

  • Strong technical background of at least 7+ years in backend development, including experience with cloud-based solutions (e.g., AWS, GCP) and RESTful APIs.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster great teamwork within and across teams.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with service oriented architectures and highly scalable services

  • Experience with parts of our tech stack can help: Scala/JVM for backend, different AWS services (S3, RDS, Elasticache, DynamoDB)
