Canada North Environmental Services (CanNorth) is an established First Nation-owned environmental services firm with an impeccable track record and a highly respected reputation. CanNorth has a strong foundation and proven expertise in environmental assessments and environmental monitoring and is looking to increase its capacity in its Biology Division.
CanNorth is seeking a highly motivated and experienced environmental monitor to work with our talented and innovative multidisciplinary team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring compliance with all environment permits, regulatory requirements, legislation, government approvals, and project environmental protection plans.
- Implementation of environmental field studies (e.g., environmental assessments, mitigation plans, etc.).
- Environmental field support during construction activities (may include, but not be limited to, conducting breeding bird surveys, nest sweeps, amphibian salvages, wetland delineation, weed identification, rare plant identification, biosecurity protocols).
- Liaising with contractors and clients at construction sites (e.g., kickoff/tailgate meetings, BMPs).
- Data collection and management.
- Completing daily reports and safety documentation in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of past experience in environmental consulting is required.
- Good knowledge of the environmental management process regarding planning, approvals, construction, mitigation, and reclamation.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental or biological sciences.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Be willing/able to be away for extended periods of time (approx. 3-21 days per trip).
- Field work will regularly require working in rugged terrain; strong outdoor skills, experience working in remote areas, and experience operating trucks with loaded trailers, ATVs, and snowmobiles is an asset.
- Safety certifications such as First Aid, ATV, and /or UTV is considered part of a good foundation.
The applicant must have superior communication skills; be able to correspond with clients and contractors in a professional way; be a team player; be highly motivated and have a positive attitude. Direct experience monitoring construction of linear developments such as oil/gas pipelines or transmission lines and potentially relevant training courses such as erosion and sediment control and environmental monitoring are considered an asset. Certification in First Aid and past experience operating a variety of field equipment (e.g., trucks, trailers, ATVs, UTVs) is also considered part of a good foundation. Ideally applicants have status as a biology professional (P. Biol.) and/or eligibility for accreditation through a professional biology organization such as the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
