Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

Join our team as an Environmental Protection Officer, where your role will see you primarily monitoring resource consents and permitted activities. This could include anything from environmental compliance issues regarding forestry, winery waste, stock farming, through to marine farms, air pollution or water quality.

If you're naturally inquisitive and enjoy investigating, you're a great fit for this job. We need someone who can inform and educate landowners and businesses, on the benefits and requirements of compliance. Good communication skills are a must, as you'll be working closely with public stakeholders and the ability to foster working relationships is a must. Paying close attention to details and following procedures accurately are essential skills we're looking for.

In this role, you'll also be skilled at formulating strategies for enforcement, including understanding and investigating complaints objectively and impartially. Along with preparing and presenting evidence to support Council functions or Court proceedings. Join us in protecting our environment and make a positive impact on your community!

This is a full-time position based in Blenheim.

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you

Ideally, you will hold previous experience in forestry, environmental protection, enforcement, or similar type, role with the proven ability to interpret key policies, legislation, and procedures.

Tertiary qualifications in forestry, resource management, environmental science, compliance or similar will be highly regarded but are not essential, providing you can demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills, with an investigative mind and an aptitude for dealing with compliance issues that can at times be complex and contentious.


As this is a customer facing role, the ability to provide high-level customer service and engage with internal and external stakeholders, from all walks of life, will be key to your success. You will have exceptional communication skills, be comfortable working collaboratively, and have the conflict resolution skills to navigate occasional difficult situations.
