Position Description


  • Provides geologist services to handle many aspects of the groundwater monitoring program for all Santee Cooper sites. Performs field and office work to comply with permit and regulatory directives. Utilizes working knowledge of South Carolina and EPA environmental regulations. Works under the guidance of a professional geologist.

  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Implements the groundwater monitoring schedule and groundwater sampling activities by serving as the field team lead.
  • Performs the implementation of monitoring plans including preparation of field equipment, forms and supplies, and lab coordination and sample turnover.
  • Works with senior staff to ensure all resources are in place for proper fieldwork and reporting execution.
  • Integrates all groundwater and surface field parameters into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and assists with the compilation of figures and tables for regulatory reporting.
  • Assists in evaluation and interpretation of technical data relative to site-specific goals.
  • Assists with communications with internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Interfaces with internal customers during presentations of trends, data gaps, and strategies to address and eliminate possible mechanical or construction induced influences on groundwater quality and remediation.
  • Assists in providing expertise for groundwater concerns.
  • Coordinates and performs field work to collect, preserve, transport, and maintain chain of custody for groundwater and surface water samples. Inspect, maintain, and calibrate sample collection equipment.
  • Monitors groundwater potentiometric surfaces and influences from CCR impoundments.
  • Inspects and maintains groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Conducts inspections, document personnel training, and maintain and inventory lab supplies and equipment.
  • Provides regulatory support, training, and technical experience for the Corporate UST Program including required documentation for LOFR, annual registration certificates, and annual testing.
  • Responds to and investigates environmental incidents or concerns.
  • Completes annual OSHA 8-hour Hazwoper training and UST Compliance training.
  • Assists in directing and mentoring co-op engineers working in Groundwater & Remediation Services.
  • Provides support for the SPCC, BMP, waste management, potable water, and GOFER programs by assisting with site inspections, inventory confirmation, drinking water sample collection, and waste pickups as needed.
  • Ensures adherence with health, safety, security, and environmental requirements in all activities.

  • Environmental Specialist II
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology + 2 years experience.
  • Must have South Carolina Geologist in Training (GIT) Registration.

  • Compensation Information:
    $66,390 - $82,980 (min. - mid.)

    Environmental Specialist I
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology.

  • Compensation Information:
    $53,400 - $66,730 (min. - mid.)
