The Sakatti deposit is located in Finnish Lapland near the town of Sodankylä, and within the existing exploration permit areas fully owned by Anglo American Sakatti Mining Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anglo American Plc. The Sakatti deposit is a unique, poly-metallic deposit that contains seven payable metals, including copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium, gold, and silver. The mine is targeted to produce two concentrates, high-grade copper and nickel concentrates but has optionality available to produce a bulk Cu-Ni concentrate.

Join Anglo American’s pioneering Sakatti Project in the heart of Finnish Lapland as an Environmental Specialist and help shape the future of sustainable mining. You’ll play an important role in supporting compliance with Finnish regulations and international best practices, assisting in the development and implementation of environmental management plans, monitoring performance throughout the project lifecycle, and contributing to the permitting process of the project.

Core Responsibilities (amongst others):
- Champion a strong safety and health culture, ensuring zero harm and acting as a role model for safe practices.
- Conduct environmental assessments and support permitting in line with Finnish environmental regulations.
- Support the development and implementation of environmental management systems and mitigation strategies
- Monitor and report on key environmental indicators such as air, water, soil, and biodiversity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into project planning.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits, inspections, and internal reporting.
- Participate in collaborative efforts with relevant external stakeholders to support compliance and promote transparency.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental permitting & management or regulatory compliance, preferably in mining or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of Finnish environmental laws and permitting processes
- Experience of planning and delivering local environmental programs
- Proactive identification and mitigation of environmental risks
- Fluent in Finnish and English with strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software is a benefit
