NPDL operates 11 containerships, moving +240k TEU between AU, NZ and the Pacific Islands, as well as the USA. We have strong partnerships with other shipping line, moving cargo across 25 customer destinations in 16 countries.
Job Description
As our Equipment Fleet Manager (M&R), you’ll take charge of shaping and driving the NPDL Group’s Fleet, Maintenance & Repair strategy with energy and vision! You’ll own the budget, uncover opportunities for cost transparency, and spearhead innovative initiatives to reduce costs and maximize efficiency. Leading group-wide efforts, you’ll implement processes that redefine how we manage and understand our fleet, making a tangible impact across the business. Passionate about continuous improvement, you’ll tackle exciting projects that elevate our operations, reduce repair costs, and ensure our container fleet is always ready to power global trade. What You’ll Be Doing:
Health & Safety
- Champion a culture of safety by adhering to all HSE legislation, regulations, and best practices relevant to your role.
- Actively promote and reinforce the company’s Health, Safety, and Environment policies, ensuring a safe and secure workplace for everyone.

- Participate in engaging HSE training sessions to stay informed and prepared.
Fleet Management
- Shape the Future: Lead the development and execution of the NPDL Group Fleet strategy alongside the Group Equipment Manager, driving impactful results.
- Inspire Collaboration: Communicate and energize stakeholders around group initiatives to achieve ambitious business goals.
- Set the Standard: Define and implement NPDL’s container criteria, ensuring excellence across the fleet. Write SOPS and standards for EMR processes.
- Streamline Operations: Oversee EMR transactions and processes, maintaining impeccable data integrity and efficiency.
- Drive Efficiency: Lead cost-saving strategies to reduce average lease and repair costs per container while optimizing fleet performance.
- Innovate Processes: Create and roll out cutting-edge EMR processes across the NPDL group, championing continuous improvement.
- Maximize Value: Work closely with leasing companies and manufacturers to secure the best financial outcomes for container warranties, particularly reefers.
- Exceed Expectations: Understand customer needs, ensuring the fleet meets quality standards and proactively collaborating with Fiji Water to deliver containers of the highest standard.
- Optimize the Fleet: Identify and execute fleet reduction strategies in alignment with the group’s vision.
- Lead with Metrics: Establish clear KPIs for container repair vendors, focusing on turn time, repair quality, and cost control.
- Ensure Compliance: Oversee in-service and off-hire repair activities, ensuring alignment with contracts and NPDL standards to support broader strategies.
- Audit Excellence: Conduct thorough vendor performance audits, ensuring repair accuracy, quality, and compliance through pre- and post-repair evaluations.
- Reefer Operations Expertise: Manage and support reefer equipment operations, including resolving agent and depot queries, coordinating spare parts, and overseeing reefer-related processes across NPDL and partner vessels.
- Recover Costs: Develop and lead initiatives to recover costs, including third-party claims and damages, with robust documentation to support financial outcomes.
- Claims Management: Review container damage incidents, participate in claims processes, and drive the best possible outcomes for the NPDL group.
- Deliver Insights: Produce and distribute comprehensive performance and management reports to keep key stakeholders informed and aligned.
- Empower Teams: Design and deliver impactful training programs across NPDL to support the M&R strategy, enhance fleet performance, and elevate the customer experience.
- Expand Opportunities: Manage container sales, contributing to the group’s success and growth.

This is a full-time permanent role based in Auckland, requiring travel to the Pacific islands. As you have worked in shipping in the past, you will know a level of flexibility is required at times to work extended hours including weekends, public holidays, etc. In return we offer a challenging and stimulating environment. You will have the right to live and work in New Zealand at the time of applying. The successful candidate may be subject to undergo a Police Check and/or Pre-Employment Drug Test.
