Estate Gardener
Location: Private Estate, in Elmore County, AL (Near Montgomery)
Job Type: Full-Time (Monday–Friday)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented horticulturist to support the ongoing care and organization of a large private estate, in Elmore County, AL (Near Montgomery).

The position works directly under the Estate Horticulturist and plays a key role in maintaining both the quality of the landscape and the organization of the processes that support it.

Key Responsibilities

Horticultural Execution (Primary Focus)

  • Perform detailed garden work including pruning, planting, transplanting, and seasonal maintenance
  • Maintain formal gardens, naturalistic plantings, and specialty areas to a high standard
  • Assist in the care of mature boxwood collections, camellias, rhododendrons, and ornamental plantings
  • Support landscape improvements and planting initiatives
  • Work alongside the horticulturist and grounds staff to ensure consistent execution
  • Assist with Maintaining turf areas, including but not limited to perform mowing, edging, trimming, and general turf care

Documentation & Systems Management

  • Maintain and organize records for:
  • Fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide programs (tracking products and schedules)
  • Irrigation schedules and system adjustments
  • Seasonal care calendars and recurring maintenance activities
  • Improve and refine existing documentation for long-term usability
  • Help establish repeatable processes that support efficient landscape care

Coordination & Support

  • Work directly under the Estate Horticulturist to support daily priorities and long-term plans
  • Provide day-to-day coordination with groundskeeping staff as needed

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience in horticulture, estate gardening, or landscape management
  • Strong plant knowledge and hands-on maintenance experience
  • Ability to maintain high-quality landscapes with attention to detail
  • Strong organizational habits and follow-through

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions
  • Dependable, professional, and respectful of a private estate environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • per hour, based on experience

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience working on private estates or high-standard properties
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems
