Position Description
STRUCTURE
The Cape Fear Community College Foundation exists to support the mission of the College and its students, faculty, staff, programs, scholarships and specific capital projects. The corporation is organized pursuant to Chapter 55A of the North Carolina General Statutes and has qualified as a Section 501 (c) (3) Public Charity corporation under the provisions of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States of America.
DEFINITION
This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the CFCC Foundation and provides leadership and direction to fundraising programs and activities that will strengthen private sector support for the College. The Executive Director will have a passion for the community, the Community College system, and our Athletics program. This position will plan, organize and participate in resource development programs and activities coordinating annual and planned giving campaigns. They will also work collaboratively with the Foundation Board and the President of the College.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- Receives administrative direction from the VP of Business Services
- Exercises direct supervision over all foundation staff
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Business Services to identify and cultivate donor relationships.

Works with the Foundation Board and the College President to solicit personal and corporate gifts
- Provides leadership for major gifts, capital campaigns, annual and planned giving campaigns, and secures substantial donations
- Serves as primary fundraiser for the Foundation; develops and implements solicitation strategies; manages the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all donors and prospects; maintains a mailing list of CFCC alumni; and develops a list of private and corporate donors
- Identifies and visits prospects, and coordinates strategies and schedules with the President
- Oversees and advises on all financial affairs pertaining to the Foundation in accordance with legal requirements
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the office, supervision and evaluation of staff and budget preparation
- Secures equipment and other non-cash gifts donated to the College
- Oversees administration of the tuition assistance and foundation scholarship programs

Works collaboratively with the Foundation Board and the President of the College to identify donors
- Ensures appropriate reports and correspondence are developed and provided to keep donors in touch with the College and the use of their gifts
- Maintains records of individual gifts, separate funds, endowments, and other categories

Coordinates Foundation Board and Committee meetings
- Provides Board orientation and training, keeps records for the Board’s operations; ensures bylaws are observed
- Serve as Secretary to the Foundation Board; prepare status reports
Other Important Functions:
- Attend meetings and participate in a variety of College advisory plans and committees which impact resource development activities
- Work closely with our Athletic programs for fundraising efforts
- Serve as an informational resource to College administrators, faculty, and staff
- Represent the College at community and outside organizations, functions, and activities
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Sources and types of funding available to institutions of higher education
- Priorities, goals, and objectives of the College
- Principles of effective relations with a variety of agencies and institutions
- Budgeting procedures and techniques
Ability to:
- Successfully coordinate a fundraising campaign
- Ability to engage with people, convey passion for the cause, and the ability to make the ask
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Display strong skills in organization and program management
- Manage software and database management systems
- Demonstrate ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality to maintain credibility, trust and support
- Monitor and administer a budget
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of community groups and the general public

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES -Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Experience:
- A minimum of two years professional experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, or customer service.
Minimum Education/Training:
- Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, communications, marketing, educational administration or a closely related field
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, communications, marketing, educational administration or a closely related field
- Prior work experience in resource development at the college level and experience conducting annual fundraising

Candidates are required to submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS for all degrees obtained prior to their first day of work or hire date. If highest level of education is High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.
Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master's degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
