Are you a skilled professional with a passion for governance and government relations? Swinburne University of Technology is seeking an Executive Officer, Governance and Government Liaison to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Director of Government Relations and report directly to the Council Secretary, serving as a key business partner to the Chancellor.

As the Executive Officer, you will provide high-level executive support to the Chancellor in their capacity as Convenor of the University Chancellors Council (UCC). You will be responsible for delivering secretariat services for the UCC, managing all internal and external correspondence, and engaging with Universities Australia, Chancellors from various institutions, and government departments and ministerial offices.

Your role will also involve event management for the National Conference on University Governance, held every two years, as well as overseeing the University Chancellors Council website and supporting the annual Australian Institute of Company Directors’ ‘Governance in the University Sector’ courses. Additionally, you will lead governance projects and initiatives as directed by the UCC. As part of a small, multi-functional team, you will collaborate across various areas within the Governance and Government Relations teams. Your ability to build effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders will be critical to your success in this role.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a university or comparable organisation.
  • Advanced organisational and management skill.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data and translate them into actionable insights that drive value.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and handle sensitive information with integrity - including the ability to manage conflicts of interest (perceived, potential, and actual).
  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex tasks to completion within tight timeframes with a high degree of autonomy.

Qualifications
Post Graduate qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as business administration, policy, governance or law.
