We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic exercise physiologist to join our innovative "Keeping Body in Mind" team helping and motivating mental health consumers to live a healthy lifestyle. This is a fantastic temporary opportunity to be a part of a progressive and innovative service - sound like you?

This position will work collaboratively with other team members (Clinical Nurse Consultant, Dietitian and Peer Support Worker) to develop, implement and evaluate targeted lifestyle and pharmacological interventions through the Keeping the Body in Mind (KBIM) program, to reduce cardio-metabolic risk factors in mental health consumers.

Specifically, the position will contribute to a holistic assessment of the consumer’s physical health, developing an individualised and tailored exercise program to meet the consumer’s physical health needs, and evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of the program. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to work with other team members to deliver targeted lifestyle interventions to contribute to a holistic assessment of consumers' physical health, and develop individualised exercise programs to meet the client’s physical health needs.

Keeping Body In Mind (KBIM), Community Mental Health, Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service, located in the Bondi Community Centre, Bondi Junction.

Selection Criteria:
  • Accredited through Exercise Sports Science, Australia and hold a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience as an accredited exercise physiologist, with consumers with mental illness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal direct professional supervision and exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to relate to consumers with mental illness, carers, mental health service staff and other associated persons/services.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and professional development.
  • Capacity to develop and deliver exercise and lifestyle education and training to arrange of professionals including mental health clinicians and GPs.
