Overview
We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and experienced ADHD Coach to support a highly intellectual high school student in developing practical strategies for academic organization, executive functioning, and greater independence.
The student is academically capable and intellectually advanced, but would benefit from structured support with time management, executive functioning, organization, university application planning, and sleep hygiene. The coach will work one-on-one with the student to develop practical, individualized strategies that complement her strengths while addressing areas that may be challenging.
This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys working with intellectually advanced teenagers and can provide thoughtful, respectful, and collaborative coaching. The successful candidate should be able to engage the student at an appropriate intellectual level while helping her translate her abilities into effective routines and consistent follow-through.
Duties
- Provide individualized one-on-one coaching focused on executive functioning and time management.
- Help the student develop practical systems for planning, prioritizing, organizing, and completing tasks.
- Support university and post-secondary application planning, including organizing deadlines, breaking applications into manageable steps, and maintaining an application timeline.
- Help develop strategies for task initiation, time estimation, prioritization, and follow-through.
- Support the development of healthy sleep routines and sleep hygiene.
- Help the student establish sustainable routines for balancing academic responsibilities, applications, and personal commitments.
- Use a collaborative, strengths-based approach that recognizes and builds upon the student's intellectual abilities.
- Monitor progress and adjust strategies according to the student's needs and response to coaching.
- Maintain concise and accurate session notes documenting goals, strategies, and progress.
- Communicate appropriately with the family regarding progress and recommendations.
- Gradually promote independence and self-management rather than completing tasks for the student.
Qualifications
- Experience working with teenagers, particularly students with ADHD, ASD, executive-function challenges, or similar needs.
- Experience or training in ADHD coaching, executive-function coaching, psychology, education, occupational therapy, social work, behavioural support, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong understanding of executive-function skills, including planning, organization, prioritization, time management, and task initiation.
- Ability to work effectively with highly intellectual or academically advanced students.
- Strong critical-thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to engage the student in thoughtful, collaborative conversations rather than relying solely on directive coaching.
- Comfortable supporting university and post-secondary application planning.
- Patient, professional, encouraging, and able to establish appropriate boundaries.
- Experience with ABA or behavioural strategies is an asset but is not required.
Position Focus
The primary focus of this position is executive-function and life-skills coaching.
The ideal candidate will understand that the student has strong intellectual and academic abilities and will focus on helping her translate those abilities into effective planning, organization, time management, and independent functioning.
The coach should be able to provide structured support while respecting the student's maturity, intelligence, and independence, with the ultimate goal of helping her develop strategies she can use successfully as she transitions to university and adulthood.
