Facility Maintenance - Ice Rink

The Zone Training is a hockey training center with a 90' x 45' ice rink and a 1200 sq ft turf field. Employees in this job classification ensure the facility is clean and in good working order for all patrons entering the premises. Through the janitorial duties and maintenance of the building, these employees are responsible for keeping the facility in check with health and safety standards indicated through The Zone Training policy.

Although janitorial duties take up the majority of the time in each shift, the maintenance staff is also required to use an ice resurfacer and hand tools to maintain the ice surface at regular intervals throughout each shift. It is imperative that the rink remains safe for all customers, therefore the maintenance staff must pay attention to detail and be knowledgeable about the equipment used.

The Zone Training is willing to train candidates who do not have prior experience driving a Zamboni or Olympia.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Resurface the ice with a tractor mounted ice resurfacer and ensure a smooth quality surface.
• Post room assignments as per daily facility schedule.
• Maintain the facility cleanliness through sweeping, mopping, dusting, shoveling, and thoroughly cleaning change rooms, washrooms and showers.
• Empty garbage receptacles and put the bags in the dumpster when required.
• Maintain machinery (ie grease fittings as per schedule), nets/boards/glass in the rink area.
• Open/close the facility, mostly by yourself. Arm and disarm the facility security alarm system.
• Ensure refrigeration unit is operational and use training to troubleshoot before contacting a supervisor.
• Miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma
• G Class drivers license
• First-Aid & CPR/AED Certificate or willing to get trained at own cost
• Working knowledge of applicable machinery and tools
• Physically able to lift up to 30lbs
• Must be physically able to operate heavy machinery multiple times per day
• Able to work in cold on-ice conditions
• Must be physically able to complete repetitive tasks
• Able to work weekday evenings and weekend shifts
• Experience maintaining a hockey facility and driving a Zamboni/Olympia an asset
• Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow direction of supervisors

Shift Times

Shifts are typically available on weekdays from 4pm – 11pm. Weekend shifts can be booked from Open - Close (if that's an 8 hour time frame) or they'll potentially be scheduled 7am – 3pm and 3pm – 11pm. *This is a business that runs by appointment only so the shift timing is different based on the time of year.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
