Your Opportunity
The Whyalla and Port Augusta Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) works with vulnerable children and their families/ carers whose lives are affected by mental health concerns. This program offers age-appropriate early intervention and family mental health support for children aged 0–18 years who are feeling worried, stressed or whose lives are affected by mental health concerns.
The program helps these children to be accepted and participate in their community through early intervention and prevention. This includes family therapy, sand play, DRUMBEAT, counselling and parenting support. It also aims to raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health issues across the community more broadly.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred case management for complex clients and review progression against case plan
- Assist clients while at the service through support intervention and referral to suitable services.
- Work with clients to create holistic and strength-based individualised support plans
- Exercise initiative and judgement in undertaking a range of program
- Undertake administrative tasks including statistics, reports, letters, and plans and data entry
Requirements for Success
- Solid background in Community Services and/or Mental Health
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or similar, plus 2–3 years' experience
- Skilled in supporting young people with complex needs and engaging families in therapeutic interventions
- Strong abilities in crisis response, case management, referrals, and advocacy
- Knowledge of Child Protection legislation and child safety frameworks
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Must hold an unrestricted, current driver licence
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
