About KKI
Kanawemahwasowin Kamik (KKI) is a Neyaskweyahk (Ermineskin) based program for Children and Families. KKI primarily serving Ermineskin Cree Nation and its members and providing programs to strengthen families and prevent involvement of Child Intervention system. KKI integrates Cree traditions, language and elder wisdom into all aspects of its services while providing advocacy and support for Ermineskin families engaged with Child and Family Services.
Summary of Position
Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. (KKI) is seeking permanent, full-time Family Wellness Practitioners to provide culturally informed counselling and therapeutic support to children, youth, parents, and families on their healing journey. Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, this role is a key component of KKI’s prevention and early intervention services, helping families navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and foster holistic wellness through both clinical and traditional approaches. The practitioner will play a vital role in supporting families facing complex circumstances that may require coordinated care across child and family service systems. The Family Wellness Practitioner will be responsible for:
· Delivering trauma-informed, culturally safe counselling to children, youth, parents, and families.
· Supporting clients through emotional distress, grief, addiction recovery, and crisis situations.
· Providing individual, family, and group therapy using strengths-based and solution-focused approaches.
· Developing and implement personalized wellness plans in collaboration with clients and their families.
· Coordinating care and referrals to registered professionals such as psychologists, therapists, and psychiatrists.
· Recognizing when specialized clinical intervention is required and refer appropriately.
· Collaborating with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural advisors to integrate traditional teachings and healing practices.
· Facilitating culturally grounded group wellness activities, including traditional gatherings and healing-focused sessions.
· Incorporating Indigenous languages, values, and ways of knowing into therapeutic work.
· Providing frontline support to families facing complex challenges, including child services involvement.
· Helping individuals/families identify their strengths, enhance their skills and empower themselves for a future free of abuse.
· Advocating for families within systems such as education, health, housing, human services, and child welfare.
· Building partnerships with schools, health services, housing providers, and Nation agencies to support family wellness.
· Participating in Nation outreach initiatives, cultural programming, and wellness events.
· Supporting group wellness activities and foster Nation-based healing.
· Utilizing electronic case management systems and digital reporting tools effectively.
· Participating in Nation events, seasonal planning, and team meetings to ensure the Cultural Wellness, Family Support and Wellness programs, are aligned with Nation needs and organizational goals.
· Preparing documents, reports, & correspondence and perform duties as assigned by the Family Wellness Practitioner Lead.
· Upholding strict confidentiality and in adherence to all privacy laws, KKI policies, and legislative requirements.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate’s minimum requirements are:
· A Diploma or degree in Counselling, Psychology, Child & Youth Care, Social Work or related Human Services field
· Minimum 3 years of experience working with Indigenous families and communities in counselling or family support services
· Specialized training in Indigenous counselling approaches is a strong asset
· Registration with a professional regulatory body is an asset
· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions & teachings, protocols and Nation dynamics.
· Experience working with First Nation organizations & understands intergenerational violence and trauma in Indigenous Nations.
· Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals and to work independently and collaboratively.
· Proficiency with technology, Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), case management and data systems
· First Aid certification and safety training is an asset.
· Valid Class 5 drivers license, access to personal vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record, Drivers Abstract and Child intervention check.
