Our Finance Team
The key focus for the Finance team is to administer and manage FreeAgent’s finances in a proper and efficient way, to provide financial information & reporting and to ensure compliance in a strong & robust control environment.
The role
We are currently hiring for a Finance Assistant.
As a Finance Assistant you'll play an important role in helping the Finance team to help meet these requirements as well as achieving their goals. You'll be responsible for recording purchase invoices within our accounting system, ensuring appropriate level of approval, and processing payments to suppliers promptly so that operations continue to run smoothly for the wider business.
Day to day, here's what you can expect:
- Processing supplier invoices to the purchase ledger in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensuring the right level of approval is obtained for every purchase invoice
- Processing regular payment runs, ensuring suppliers are paid on time
- Monitoring the Finance team email inbox, dealing with queries promptly and efficiently
- Working with other areas of the business to accrue uninvoiced costs for month end reporting
- Supporting the team at month end to ensure all reporting deadlines are met
- Reconciling the business bank account, raising queries and resolving issues where necessary
- Managing petty cash
- Reconciling and processing ad-hoc payments as and when required
- Supporting other team members by covering credit control and customer queries when needed
- Input to ad-hoc tasks and project work, both within and outside Finance, helping to make FreeAgent a great place to work
You
Ideally you'll have:
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Working knowledge of a financial ledger
- Good time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Experience posting purchase invoices, credit notes and payments
- An understanding of accruals and prepayments
- Ability to work effectively in and contribute to a small team, and listen to and encourage others
- Computer literacy with a good understanding of spreadsheets in particular
- A high level of attention to detail with an analytical mindset
- Adaptability and be open to change
- Ability to problem solve
- Willingness to assist other team members when necessary
- Sufficient self-awareness to identify personal strengths and areas for development; reviews and reflects on personal behaviour and is able to make adjustments accordingly
It’d be a bonus if you have:
- Experience working with any of the following: Netsuite, Freshservice, Google Suite

Work pattern for this role
This is a permanent, full-time role (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).
Depending on the experience level of the candidate, we’re open to discussing part time working patterns for this role (minimum 28 hours per week). Please state in the application form what your ideal work pattern would be.
This role will be based in our Edinburgh office, and adopt hybrid working, under an agreed pattern of 2 days from the office and 3 days at home each week. Working from home is second nature to us as we have been championing remote working for 16 years.
Perks
Annual starting salary of £23,500 - £27,000 per annum depending on experience, with room to progress to £28,500 within the band.
