JOB POSITION: Financial Counselor

JOB STATUS: Full-Time 80 Hours, Monday - Friday - 8:00am – 4:30pm

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Must possess an AAPC certification in medical billing/coding or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Understanding of insurance billing including Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial strongly preferred. Experience in medical terminology and medical coding is a plus. Must possess excellent computer, office, and math skills and have a firm understanding of the medical billing process including Insurance Remittance Advice, Price Transparency Rules and regulations, and ability to process monetary transactions. Must be able to read and follow written and oral instructions and be capable of working well with the public on a professional and confidential basis. Must be attentive to detail and accuracy. Excellent Internal and External customer service is a requirement. Excellent Telephone Etiquette is required. Epic experience preferred.

JOB DUTIES: Provides Financial Counseling proactively and retrospectively to patients to assist them with determining appropriate method to adjudicate their medical bills. Reviews patient documentation to determine financial assistance eligibility in accordance with Hospital policy. Assists patients with completing Financial Assistance applications. Collects and posts patient payments in accordance with Hospital policies. Set up payment plans for patients and perform collections of payments. Assists with ensuring that Good Faith Estimates are provided to patients and are compliant with State and Federal Guidelines. Maintains compliance with the payer reimbursement policies and Federal Health Care program requirements Will work closely with providers, clinical staff, and Revenue Cycle team members to create a smooth workflow for patients. Must be a strong communicator with a focus on confidentiality, quality of work, and customer satisfaction. Other duties as needed.
