UCA is looking for a full time Finish Carpenter & Apprentices position. This is an onsite position in our Markham office.

WHAT’S THE JOB ABOUT?

Reporting to the Manager, Shop Installations, The Finish Carpenter & Apprentices role is centered around the prefabrication and preparation of commercial doors and hardware in a busy, well‑organized shop environment. Our team builds, fits, and prepares commercial door systems before they head to job sites, ensuring everything is accurate, high‑quality, and ready for installation.

As a Finish Carpenter, your responsibilities are:

  • Prefabricate commercial doors and frames according to specifications
  • Install commercial doors, frames, and hardware with precision
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and hardware schedules
  • Perform detailed finish carpentry, including trimming, fitting, and adjustments
  • Inspect completed work to ensure accuracy, alignment, and smooth operation
  • Troubleshoot installation or fitment issues and make necessary corrections
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Communicate material needs, shortages, or equipment issues to supervisors
  • Collaborate with team members to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications as a Finish Carpenter:

  • 5+ years of carpentry experience
  • Strong background in finish carpentry
  • Experience with commercial doors and hardware
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must own personal hand tools and steel‑toe boots (power tools provided)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

As an Apprentice Carpenter, your responsibilities are:

  • Assist carpenters with prefabrication of doors, frames, and hardware prep
  • Support installation tasks under supervision
  • Measure, cut, and prepare materials as directed
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean working order
  • Follow all safety procedures and company guidelines
  • Ask questions, seek guidance, and actively develop carpentry skills
  • Load, unload, and organize materials in the shop
  • Assist with basic hardware installation and adjustments as skills progress
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications as an Apprentice Carpenter:

  • 1–4 years of construction‑related experience
  • Strong motivation to learn the trade and grow within the company
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take direction
  • Must own personal hand tools and steel‑toe boots (power tools provided)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
