Fire Inspector (Unifor Tec Maintenance/Skilled Trades)

This opportunity is currently only available to bargaining unit members. If you are not a bargaining unit member, your application will not be forwarded to the hiring manager. What you will deliver:

  • Perform inspections of Property & Premises
  • Monitor & Maintain fire alarm systems
  • Report, document and resolve all fire and life safety infractions
  • Inspect, Monitor and Maintain Sprinkler and Fire Standpipe Systems
  • Respond to emergencies as required
  • Utilize Public Address System to inform/direct tenants regarding emergencies, evacuation procedures, etc.
  • Provide Fire & Life Safety Coordinator with written occurrence/inspections and deficiency reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain and inspect building fire protection systems
  • Provide training to emergency personnel (Fire Wardens, etc.)
  • Work on department projects and initiatives
  • Report major occurrences to Management and tenants as required
  • Liaise with Operations staff, Security and supervisors
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor within the general scope of work

What your strengths are:

What you need to succeed:

  • Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Engineering Technology or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of the installation/maintenance of fire alarm systems
  • Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification or completion of CFAA Theory Exam
  • Completion of NFPA 1031 Certified Fire Inspector Level 1 and 2 from a recognized post-secondary institution (an asset)
  • Thoroughly conversant with Ontario Building and Fire Code
  • Working knowledge of sprinkler systems, standpipe systems and fire pumps
