Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Schedule: First Shift (Monday–Friday, 6am-2:30pm, occasional evenings/weekends as needed)

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Position Summary

St. Paul's Lutheran Church is seeking a dependable, self-motivated First Shift Custodian/Maintenance Technician to help provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, church members, and visitors. This position combines daily custodial responsibilities with light building maintenance and seasonal grounds care. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, enjoys variety in their day, and is comfortable working independently while supporting a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Custodial

• Clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, auditoriums and common areas.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, and disinfect assigned areas.
• Empty trash and recycling containers.
• Replenish restroom and custodial supplies.
• Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for school and church events.
• Perform floor care, including auto-scrubbing, and carpet spot cleaning.
• Identify and report safety hazards or maintenance concerns.

Light Maintenance

• Perform minor repairs including replacing ceiling tiles, light bulbs, filters, door hardware, and basic plumbing fixtures.
• Assist with preventative maintenance on building systems.
• Assemble furniture and equipment.
• Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
• Operate common hand and power tools safely.
• Assist outside contractors when needed.
• Monitor Alarms as needed

Grounds Maintenance

• Light landscaping
• Operate snow removal equipment and apply ice melt during winter weather.
• Collect litter and maintain sidewalks, entrances, and parking areas.
• Assist with seasonal landscaping projects and exterior maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial, facilities, maintenance, or grounds experience is preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and chemicals.
• Ability to perform minor building repairs.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Safely operate custodial equipment, lawn equipment, and snow removal equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in school, church, healthcare, or commercial facilities.
• Experience operating floor scrubbers, burnishers, and lawn equipment.
• Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs or work order systems.

Pay: $18.50 - $21.00 per hour
