Our Auckland Seafood team is seeking a skilled Fish Cutter to join their busy morning team.
As part of a dynamic group, you will be responsible for cutting various species of fish to specifications.
The Role:
- Immediate start
- Permanent, full-time position
- Shift timings: Monday to Friday, 04:00 am to 12:30 pm
- Location: Ihumatao Road, Mangere
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will prepare fish and other seafood products by cutting, cubing, filleting, and shelling them. You will also assist in stocking and performing other duties in the Seafood room.
Key tasks include:
- Clean and wash seafood products following designated safety guidelines
- Perform filleting and fin removal processes
- Create slices and cubes, packing them according to specified standards
- Remove slime from fish and ensure proper preparation for packaging
- Dress, wrap, and label seafood products
- Inspect fish and other sea products for defects, bruises, or blemishes
- Process parts into cuts ready for selling
- Place packed items into freezers and chillers for storage
- Maintain cleanliness and proper sanitization of prep areas
- Dispose of scales, skins, and other materials according to standards
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment (e.g., knives, de-scalers) at the end of each workday
- Perform heavy lifting (up to 20 kg)
- Monitor product quality before packaging
- Maintain work areas and general housekeeping
- Strictly adhere to food safety standards and health and safety protocols
The Person:
We are looking for an individual with 2-3 years of relevant experience in the seafood industry. You should be able to work independently, ensuring high standards are met. Our Seafood department operates in a temperature-controlled environment, so you should be comfortable working in cold conditions and physically fit to handle heavy lifting.
Ideal Candidates will have:
- Trade qualification (ideal but not essential)
- Excellent knife handling skills
- Previous experience in a chiller and/or food processing environment
- Prior NZ experience and knowledge of seafood
- Physical fitness for heavy lifting
- Reliable transport and flexibility with hours
- Clear communication skills
- A confident, flexible attitude with attention to detail
- Intermediate literacy and numeracy skills
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication
- A good understanding of health and safety requirements
