Fish Farm Operative

Job Summary

IDAS Trout Farm Ltd. Is based in Aughrim, Co. Wicklow, Ireland and comprises of four farms growing Rainbow Trout from egg to market size.

The position (Fish farm Operative) will be outdoors solely and would require a person that’s motivated, hardworking and has ability to work with a team to keep and maintain a high standard of fish welfare on all farms while producing a high end product for the Irish and European markets.

Job Description

  • Day to Day husbandry of Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss.
  • Daily environmental recording
  • Assure quality and safety standards are observed.
  • Knowledge of machinery upkeep and operation.
  • Tracking and grading fish throughout all life stages to market.
  • Ability to perform disinfection tasks as assigned.
  • Loading fish to be hauled to the processing plant/Hauling fish within the farms or to other farms. (Trailer License is a plus but not essential.)
  • Unloading feed bags. (25kg.)
  • Lifting and moving heavy graders, crowd nets, and fish pumps.
  • Counting and collecting daily mortality, cleaning screens.
  • Seasonal head ditch clearing and grounds maintenance.
  • Maintenance of screens, crowders, nets, graders, etc.
  • Maintenance skills and familiarity of woodwork, net stitching among other skills not required but beneficial.
  • Perform mathematical abilities consistent with routine daily fish movements, including, correctly reading sight gauges, filling out harvest dockets, calculating sample counts, etc.
  • Ability to understand English required for safety purposes.
  • Communicate and Work as a Team Member:
  • Communicate with fellow employees to complete tasks and adhere to safety standards.
  • Assist other team members in completion of work.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules with varying hours as required. Required for weekend cover on rotation basis amongst other colleagues
  • Night and Alarm/out of hours cover on rotation between all staff.
  • Miscellaneous Duties as assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Proven farm experience is a plus.
  • Relevant Qualifications are a plus but not required
  • Full Driving License is required - Trailer license is a plus
  • Record keeping, organisational skills.
  • Exemplary Attendance.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and also as a team player.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to communicate in English in order to adhere to safety standards.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: €29,500.00-€33,000.00 per year
