Job Overview
The B&R Club, a mid-town private racquets, fitness, wellness, and social club is seeking a dedicated and personable Fitness Centre Support Specialist & Personal Trainer to join our team. This role is vital in providing exceptional member support and ensuring smooth operations within our Fitness Centre.

The Fitness Centre Support Specialist is primarily responsible for helping conduct Fitness Centre orientations, overseeing equipment maintenance and facility cleanliness, inventory of fitness studio equipment, fitness department statistics reporting and more.

There is an ability to earn 60% commissions on personal training.

Hours 3-29/per week for both floor supervision and personal training.

Duties:

  • Help develop group fitness programs – consulting with the Fitness Manager on what group fitness classes are currently successful and what fitness classes could be added to the next schedule based on member feedback.
  • Schedule and coordinate group fitness classes – after consulting with the Fitness Manager, help put classes online for registration, create registration sheets for group exercise studio binders, and track registration.
  • Conduct Fitness Centre Orientations – when members join the Fitness Centre, meet and tour them through the facility, answer any questions they may have, and show them how to use equipment safely.
  • Coordinate sporting events – assist the Fitness Manager with the creation of new athletic events – including Fitness and Wellness Week, small group training offerings, and fitness demonstrations.
  • Oversee facility cleanliness in the Fitness Centre and Group Exercise Studios. Check the Fitness Centre and studios at each shift for cleanliness. Wipe down equipment at the beginning of each shift and notify the Fitness Manager and/or Facilities Manager of any additional cleaning requirements i.e., vacuuming, mopping, dusting, etc.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance in the Fitness Centre and Group Exercise Studios. During each shift, check the state of the equipment in both the Fitness Centre and studios. Determine if the equipment is in good working condition and if repairs are needed. Report repairs needed to Fitness Manager or follow through on calling 3rd-party repair company. Communicate to members that equipment is under repair. Ensure there is signage on the equipment.
  • Conduct monthly inventory of fitness studio equipment. Provide an inventory report to the Fitness Manager.
  • Provide member feedback on equipment, services, programs, classes, etc. to the Fitness Manager in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the health & safety of all members using the Fitness Centre
  • Circulate through the Fitness Centre, interacting with members, checking on their progress, and providing encouragement and recognition to those members in need of such attention. In monitoring fitness activity, it is necessary to ensure exercises are done correctly to prevent personal injury and equipment is used correctly to prevent damage.
  • Check with the Fitness Manager, Pro Shop for any messages, notices, equipment difficulties, and phone calls.
  • Inform members about the rules and regulations of the Fitness Centre, dress code, conduct and obligations. Supervisor on duty must ensure that all rules are adhered to. Any infractions or difficult situations of these rules are to be reported to Fitness Manager, Director of Athletics, or Management immediately.
  • Greet newcomers to the Fitness Centre. Encourage and motivate Members with friendly, professional advice, personal example and guidance. Give equal service to all members. Be polite and helpful at all times and always promote the Fitness Centre image.
  • Assist in the operation of special events and in the administration of specialized activity programs.
  • Keep abreast of new trends and development in the industry.
  • Assume responsibility for Member safety and the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the Fitness Centre. Conduct regular reviews of the Fitness Centre for neatness / cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment. Ensure any necessary repairs are made or reported to the Fitness Manager.
  • Ensure that all records are correctly maintained, and statistics of facility usage are up to date. This includes ensuring members sign in or out of the logbook upon entering or leaving the Fitness Centre.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationship with the Fitness Manager, Pro Shop, General Office Staff, Maintenance Supervisor, and other staff. Undertake any reasonable duty requested by management.
  • Ensure that towel supplies are maintained and controlled.
  • Report any accidents/incidents or emergencies to the Health & Supervisor, General Manager or Sports Director immediately and maintain accurate reports.
  • Submit any lost and found property to the appropriate locker rooms and/or general office.
  • Attend meetings when required.
  • Maintain professional qualifications through appropriate courses, workshops, seminars.
  • Other Duties:
  • Adheres to all club policies and procedures including health and safety and employment policies.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned by direct reports.

Requirements:

  • In progress of or completion of a University / College degree
  • Microsoft suite skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Valid First Aid / CPR Certification, an asset
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Administrative skills
  • Personable, co-operative, and enthusiastic
  • Ability to stand for periods of time and lift objects
  • Neat appearance
  • Criminal background check
