About the Role
We are seeking a Food Innovation & Recipe Development Specialist to join our Bakery Production Kitchen. This role is focused on driving creativity, innovation, and excellence in bakery recipe development, product launches, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will blend technical skill with creative flair to expand our product offering, optimize existing recipes, and ensure Summerhill Market continues to deliver the highest quality baked goods to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead recipe development for new bakery items, from concept through testing to final production.
  • Innovate seasonal, holiday, and trend-based bakery products that align with Summerhill Market’s brand.
  • Refine and improve existing recipes to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in large-scale production.
  • Collaborate with Bakery Production Managers, Team Leads, and Culinary leadership to translate creative ideas into scalable processes.
  • Conduct trials, testing, and documentation for all new products, ensuring recipes are costed, standardized, and production-ready.
  • Research and stay ahead of industry trends, ingredients, and techniques to inspire innovation.
  • Partner with vendors and suppliers to source high-quality, on-trend ingredients.
  • Provide training and guidance to bakery staff on new recipes, decorating techniques, and product rollouts.
  • Support product photography, marketing launches, and customer education initiatives where needed.
  • Ensure all recipes and processes adhere to food safety and health & safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Formal training in Baking & Pastry Arts, Culinary Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional bakery or pastry experience, with proven recipe development expertise.
  • Strong technical knowledge of bakery production, scaling, and food science principles.
  • A creative innovator with a passion for baking and food trends.
  • Experience in high-volume production environments is an asset.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work closely with both creative and operational teams.
  • Flexible, hands-on, and motivated to continuously raise the bar.
