Hiring Range: $22.68 to $28.35 per hour
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Pay Grade: 107
Full Pay Range: $21.55 to $32.33 per hour

Position Summary:
As a Forestry Crew Technician, performs fuels reduction and hazard mitigation work within the City of Prescott and Prescott Firewise Community. Performs skilled, semi-skilled, and manual work in maintaining and repairing grounds, facilities, buildings, and/or landscapes for one or more areas within the division.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position is expected to exercise independent judgment in the disposition of daily activities. This position normally has no supervisory responsibilities but may supervise employees depending on assigned area. Under general supervision, this job class is expected to follow guidelines and use common sense but is not expected to exercise independent judgment of a significant nature in the disposition of daily activities.
Essential Duties:
- Performs fuels reduction and hazard mitigation work within the Prescott Firewise Community, Open Space, and in the Recreation Services Park Systems
- Clears brush sometimes under adverse conditions related to climate and terrain.
- Assists in snow removal according to snow response policy and procedures.
- Utilizes a variety of specialized tools (chain saw, Pulaski, shovel, McLeod, rake, and other custom tools, brush chipper, weed eater, blower, and pole saw), equipment, and techniques on fuels management projects.
- Knowledge in hazard and tree felling techniques.
- Directs thinning and reduction of fuels that present a risk of property loss and damage in the event of a wildfire.
- Performs curbside chipping and fuels treatment projects.
- Helps maintain public facilities, parks, lakes, and grounds; picks up trash, debris, and tree limbs; trims bushes, trees, and shrubs.
- Removes graffiti; records the location, type, and description of the graffiti removed.
- Keeps records, files, logs, ledgers, etc. of activities in order to provide accurate documentation of work performed.
- Participates in department training.
- Serves as a representative of the City of Prescott
- Stocks safety equipment for crew.
- Maintains and repairs tools, equipment, and/or vehicles.
- Ensures staff and equipment are in a state of readiness.
- Writes grant proposals, maintains records, and prepares reports.
- Maintenance Shop House Keeping (Sweep, Mop, Trash Pick up, Restroom Cleaning, Etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent and prefer coursework in forestry and/or community risk reduction relevant to fuels management; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license. Must possess a valid Arizona Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire date. Possess a valid Arizona State Applicator's License (Turf and Ornamental and Right of Way Categories) or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.

- Knowledge of fuels management principles and creation of defensible space and fuel breaks.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of local vegetation.

- Ability to interact with people at all levels, both internally and externally, including the public.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to understand the supervisory needs associated with oversight of other individuals.
Physical Demands And Working Conditions:
- Work is rigorously performed in the field and requires above average physical performance, endurance, and superior conditioning.
- Work requires prolonged standing, walking over uneven ground, recurring bending, stretching, reaching, lifting, and carrying items over 50 pounds for possibly long distances in possibly adverse weather and temperatures.
- Safely and effectively performs required duties.
- Safely operates required equipment and City vehicles as needed.
- Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicates both in person and over the telephone.
- Work is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to my co-workers or others.
