Lifeguards play a key role in supporting community members to achieve their health and wellness goals. We build great relationships with our pool users and are well-trained to respond to any emergencies. Here's your opportunity to join our successful aquatics team! We'll provide all the training needed to become a NZ qualified Pool Lifeguard (which includes NCEA credits) and if you don't have your comprehensive first aid certificate, we will cover the cost of this too!

We now have an opportunity for you to join the teams at the following recreation centres; Jellie Park Recreation and Sport Centre, Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre & Taiora QEII Recreation and Sport Centre.

To be successful, you will:

• Have excellent customer service, this is one of our top priorities and you'll share our vision in making sure every customer who enters our facility has a great time with their whānau and friends.
• You'll be a natural when it comes to problem-solving, thinking on your feet and you will have the skills to communicate with a diverse range of customer groups.
• You'll need to be a capable swimmer and can stay calm in busy and pressured situations. If you're not ready for the swim test, let us know, we're happy to give you some tips to practice!

Locations & Shift Hours:

• Jellie Park (40 hours): Mon 9.15am - 5.45pm, Tues 4.45am-1.15pm, Wed 1.30-10pm, Thurs 1.30-10pm, Sun 12-8.30pm
• Taiora QEII 1 (40 hours): Mon 5am-1.30pm, Tues 9.30am-6pm, Wed 9.30am-6pm, Thurs 1.30-10pm, Sun 8am-4.30pm
• Taiora QEII 2 (40 hours): Tues 1-9:30pm; Wed 1:15-9:45pm; Thurs 1-9:30pm; Friday 9.30am - 6pm; Saturday 7am - 3.30pm
• Pioneer 1 (40 hours): Network (7.30-4pm) Monday-Friday
• Pioneer 2 (40 hours): Tue (5-1.30pm) Wed (1.15-9.45pm) Thurs (5.30-2pm) Fri (5-1.30pm) Sat (12-8.30pm)

Please clearly indicate on your application which location and shift package you are applying for.

Important parts of the process:

• If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to complete a swim test (this is mandatory). If you pass the swim test we will contact you to discuss the next steps in the process.
• If successful after the interview, you will be required to undertake 2 full days of Lifeguard Training with a follow-up assessment to gain your Pool Lifeguard Qualification. The cost of these courses is covered by Christchurch City Council. If you already hold a PLPC you will not need to attend the Lifeguard assessment day.
• The dates for the course are 3rd & 4th March 2025 with the assessment date on 11th March 2025. Attending this course is a non-negotiable requirement for this role.
• Candidates must complete a two-day First Aid Certificate course before commencing work with us.
• Police and Health Checks: Employment is subject to passing a NZ police check and a health check.

• Position: Permanent, full-time.
• Salary: $27.80 per hour, we pay the current NZ living wage!
