Integrated Biosphere Futures (IBF) Research group
Contribute to meaningful research that drives global change! The Integrated Biosphere Futures (IBF) Research Group, part of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources (BNR) Program is seeking a GAMS Modeler to join their dynamic and diverse team. This role offers the chance to work on the development and enhancement of the IBF modeling system, a tool integral to addressing global challenges in agriculture, forestry, bioenergy, fisheries, and more.

your main RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain and update the IBF modeling system, taking full advantage of the GAMS software language.
- Improve model efficiency and structure.
- Lead code documentation and establish coding best practices.
- Provide technical support and training to colleagues and the GLOBIOM modeling community.
- Support integration of models by adapting code and developing interfaces.

- Min. Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject plus expertise in GAMS software (experience with R or Python is a plus).
- Knowledge of large-scale applied economic models is an advantage.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality work.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

aPPOINTMENT TERMS
The selected candidate should be available to take up the position as soon as possible in 2025 (start date negotiable). We offer an initial fixed-term, two-year, full-time (40 hours per week) employment contract, with the possibility of extension thereafter. Eligible applicants wishing to work part-time hours may be considered.
Duties will be carried out at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, near Vienna in Austria.
The successful candidate will be appointed in accordance with either the IIASA profiles research careers.

- An attractive salary which is exempt from income tax in Austria and negotiable, based on the qualifications, skills and experience of the selected individual and at least:
EUR 53,451.00 gross per annum.
IIASA salaries are
- Subject to deductions for health insurance and/or social security.
- Not directly comparable with other employers in Austria, due to the unique legal status and privileges granted to IIASA.
- Subject to the principle of income aggregation (Progressionsvorbehalt in German).
