Centrica Energy is strengthening its Gas trading activities and is looking for candidate to join the Gas team in Aalborg. The role is embedded into our Short Term Gas Trading team covering both trading and operations across the wider Centrica portfolio, where operational control, real-time decision-making and execution excellence are critical to the value creation.

About the Role

This role sits at the centre of Centrica Energy’s Physical Gas Trading and Operational setup, where a strong operational mindset is essential to contribute directly to managing real-time positions, optimising physical flows and supporting short-term trading performance across the European Gas Markets.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing and optimising physical gas positions across Centrica’s assets and third-party portfolios, including real-time execution, balancing and short-term trading to optimise PnL

• Coordinating nominations, scheduling and position management with TSOs, SSOs and internal stakeholders to ensure secure, compliant physical delivery (e.g., timely nominations, confirmations and imbalance follow-up)

• Executing short-term and intraday gas trades based on market conditions, liquidity and fundamentals, within defined risk limits, REMIT requirements and delegated authority (e.g., hub trades, locational optimisation, prompt products)

• Working closely with short-term traders, curve traders, portfolio managers, analytics, IT and trade support to support overall gas portfolio performance (such as sharing market views, improving data/flows, and strengthening controls)

• Contributing to continuous improvement and strong operational control, such as automation, process optimisation, accurate documentation, and structured handovers.

• You will be part of a 24/7 shift rotation with ownership of decisions outside office hours

This position offers deep exposure to physical gas operations and short-term trading, with structured support and development. For junior candidates, it is a strong platform to kick-start a career in gas trading; for experienced candidates, it offers scope to broaden responsibility, shape ways of working, and progress within the Centrica Energy gas team.

About You

We are looking for someone who is commercially minded, analytically strong, and comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced market environment. This person brings intellectual curiosity, resilience under pressure, and a collaborative mindset, and is motivated by continuously improving both trading performance and market execution.

The ability and motivation to understand, manage and optimise physical positions, imbalances and operational constraints is fundamental and underpins successful short-term trading.

Relevant experience and skills include:

• A relevant degree (e.g., a Master’s in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or another quantitative/analytical discipline), or equivalent experience

• Strong numerical reasoning and analytical skills, with an interest in how market structures and economic relationships drive price formation

• Ability to manage multiple priorities accurately, remain calm under pressure, and communicate clearly with stakeholders

• A high level of technical competence, including strong Excel skills and interest in (or experience with) data and automation tools such as Python, VBA, R, or similar

• Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are welcome

• Comfort working in a shift-based environment, with responsibility for real-time decisions and structured handovers

• A structured and detail-oriented approach to execution, controls and operational risk

Nice to haves:

• Understanding of short-term trading strategies, market liquidity and price formation, and/or a track record of optimising short-term positions

• Experience with, energy trading and gas markets (such as trading, scheduling, optimisation, analysis, risk, or operations)Experience with physical gas operations and processes (e.g., nominations, scheduling, balancing, storage or asset optimisation)

• Experience with trade capture, nomination, scheduling, or position management tools (such as Loadbook or similar systems)
