General Buyer – R&D & Catalog Procurement

As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a General Buyer to manage catalog and non-production procurement, supporting R&D teams and engineering development. This role ensures the efficient purchasing of tools, prototypes, test equipment, and general supplies critical to engineering and product development.
The General Buyer will report to the Global Supply Chain Director and work closely with engineers, researchers, and project teams to facilitate purchases that support development needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical understanding of R&D materials, rapid prototyping requirements, and supplier sourcing for engineering-related purchases.
Key Responsibilities:
General & R&D Procurement
- Manage catalog and non-production procurement, ensuring the availability of tools, lab equipment, and consumables for R&D and engineering teams.
- Assist engineers and researchers in sourcing and purchasing development materials, test components, prototypes, and specialized equipment.
- Identify preferred suppliers and vendors for technical goods, optimizing cost, lead time, and quality.
- Ensure timely order placement and expedite critical purchases to support fast-paced R&D cycles.
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and distributors for lab materials, electronics, mechanical components, and prototyping tools.
- Evaluate and onboard new suppliers, ensuring they meet technical and quality requirements.
- Negotiate pricing and terms for one-time and recurring purchases.
Procurement Process & Cost Optimization
- Work with engineering and R&D teams to ensure purchasing aligns with technical requirements and project budgets.
- Optimize procurement workflows to enable quick, hassle-free purchases for development teams.
- Track spending trends and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
Inventory & Logistics Coordination
- Monitor stock levels of frequently used development supplies and implement replenishment strategies.
- Coordinate shipping and logistics for domestic and international purchases.
- Work with finance teams to ensure accurate order tracking, invoicing, and reconciliation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or purchasing, preferably in a technology or engineering-driven environment.
- Strong understanding of engineering and R&D purchasing needs, including prototyping materials, lab equipment, and test components.
- Experience with catalog procurement, vendor management, and general supply purchasing.
- Familiarity with technical specifications and engineering development workflows.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and assist engineers in identifying suitable components or materials.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and procurement tools.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage supplier relationships.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
