General Maintenance & Equipment Technician
Level: Hands-on generalist — no formal certificate or trade required
Alternate titles: Maintenance Mechanic / Facility & Equipment Technician / Maintenance Generalist
Purpose
A capable, mechanically inclined “do-it-all” maintenance person who keeps equipment, facilities, and systems running across the operation. The right person is a practical problem-solver who can turn their hand to a wide range of repairs and upkeep — no formal trade ticket required, just solid mechanical ability, common sense, and a willingness to take on whatever needs fixing.
Key Responsibilities
- General equipment maintenance and repair, including pump replacement and servicing.
- Routine servicing of mobile equipment — e.g. changing oil and basic upkeep on skid steers and similar machinery.
- Basic electrical work, including replacing and repairing light fixtures and general electrical maintenance.
- Welding and basic metal fabrication/repair as needed around the facility and equipment.
- Basic plumbing repairs — fixing leaks, replacing fittings, and general water-line upkeep.
- General facility maintenance and handyman tasks to keep sites safe, functional, and tidy.
- Respond to breakdowns and maintenance needs promptly to minimize equipment downtime.
- Identify recurring issues and suggest practical fixes or improvements.
- Work safely and follow site safety practices at all times.
What We're Looking For
- Strong overall mechanical aptitude — a person who is naturally good with their hands and equipment.
- Working knowledge across several areas: pumps, small-engine/equipment servicing, basic electrical, welding, and basic plumbing.
- No formal certificate or trade ticket required; relevant hands-on experience matters more than credentials.
- Resourceful and self-directed — able to diagnose a problem and get it fixed without much oversight.
- Reliable, safety-minded, and comfortable switching between different types of work in a day.
- Shift flexible — willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including coverage outside standard hours as needs require.
Nice to Have
- Experience in an industrial, plant, or shop environment.
- Comfort operating mobile equipment (skid steer, forklift, etc.).
- Any welding, electrical, or mechanical experience that broadens the range of jobs they can take on.
