SUMMARY

The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the Gas Bar, ensuring efficient service delivery, effective marketing execution, and improved company profitability. Key duties include staff scheduling, performance appraisals, budgeting, and achieving financial targets.

The General Manager will also oversee the maintenance of the building and property, including all plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, snow removal, grass cutting, and any other required maintenance or repairs.

This position is further accountable for upholding the company's image and standards, implementing and enforcing corporate programs, policies, and procedures, and ensuring compliance across all operations.

The General Manager reports directly to the VP Operations of NGCI and must demonstrate professionalism, strong leadership, and excellent public relations skills when dealing with customers, vendors, and the community. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the demands of the business.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership to employees to ensure these areas are operated to company expectations.
  • Provide leadership and direction in accordance with company policies, procedures, programs, merchandising standards, and overall expectations.
  • Adhere to all Franchise Agreement obligations and standards.
  • Provide feedback to the VP Operations of NGCI regarding recommendations for continued improvement of operations. Develop and administer action plans to achieve desired results of the business plan.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development and achievement of financial results and store budget objectives in sales, margins, expenses, and profits. Review monthly financial results with the Financial Controller, VP Operations, and President.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of annual financial budgets. Maintain continuous healthy revenues with a goal to increase profit margins annually.
  • Maintain all reporting requirements for both business operations. Ensure all necessary reports are submitted and compliant.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding pricing, financial and marketing strategies, and Human Resources-related information.
  • Lead social media marketing and customer engagement efforts across appropriate platforms to increase brand awareness, promote products and services, strengthen community relationships, and drive sales growth.
  • Ensure the store adheres to government regulations in the areas of labelling, sanitation, and food safety.
  • Maintain customer service standards by tracking, monitoring, and following up on customer comments and complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resource Manager in providing leadership in the areas of employee relations, training, development, performance management, discipline, recognition, termination, security, administration of policies and procedures, and WCB claims.
  • Liaise within the community as a public relations representative for the company.
  • Coordinate yearly performance work plans.
  • Study market research and trends to determine consumer demand, potential sales volumes, and the effect of competitors' operations on sales.
  • Source and negotiate with vendors when necessary to procure merchandise for resale.
  • Perform or assist with year-end performance reviews and development action plans.
  • Collaborate with the VP Operations to provide leadership in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), including participating in OH&S activities; ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with OH&S policies, procedures, and legislation; assisting in identifying unhealthy or unsafe situations; and ensuring corrective action is taken.
  • Ensure equipment, including pumps and POS systems, is maintained and that security protocols for cash and site premises are followed.
  • Follow operational guidelines and procedures daily.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual operations and status reports to the President & CEO and VP Operations.
  • Provide hands-on support in front-line operations as necessary, including cooking, preparation, serving, cleaning, and other operational duties.
  • Conduct annual full-store inventory counts and reporting, and perform monthly spot inventory audits to ensure inventory accuracy and effective inventory control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Neyaskweyahk Gas Bar is located at Ermineskin Cree Nation, Maskwacis, Alberta. The business operates in a fast-paced environment with 8 operating hours. The General Manager will be accessible when needed to meet operational requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Possess own transportation.
  • Understanding of the strategic goals of the companies.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Point of Sale (POS) systems and Microsoft programs.
  • Excellent written communication, time-management, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare monthly operational reports.
  • Experience managing employees and schedules.
  • Proven experience in a managerial role with strong working knowledge of operational procedures.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Above-average collaboration and delegation skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain financial plans.
  • Excellent customer service and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Positive and professional vendor relations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or a related field.
  • Equivalency: Business Diploma with 5+ years of experience.
  • Previous performance evaluation experience.
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources processes.
  • Marketing knowledge.
  • Financial management experience in business operations, including forecasting, budgeting, sales, ROI, and GPM.
  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma.

POSITION DETAILS

Immediate Supervisor: Vice-President Operations

Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000 annually

Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
