The Role

The Friends of the Wye Marsh are seeking a highly motivated General Manager to lead our team of outdoor education and conservation experts. Your primary responsibility it to oversee day-to-day operations of the Marsh. You have strong organizational skills and are a strategic leader that partners with and reports to the Board of Directors.

You are inclusive and collaborative, creating an open and positive work environment for all visitors, volunteers, staff and various stake holders while striving to maximize the organization’s efficiency and productivity. You will strengthen and develop partnerships with key government, community and business stakeholders and develop a strong working relationship with a committed board of directors and our leaseholders. You hire, train, mentor and delegate to your team to ensure the operations runs smoothly and generates a positive cash flow.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership: ensuring effective team work, building relationships and partnerships

Operational Management: ensuring the efficient operations of the organization including (policies and procedures, capital improvements and support for board meetings)

Continuous Improvement: fostering a culture that drives efficiency and flexibility into all aspects of operations

Strategic Planning: Developing long term strategic plans and ensuring the alignment of annual plans

Program Planning and Management: strengthen current programs while developing new programs and services that contribute to the organizations mission

Human Resources Planning and Management: implementing best practices in this area to optimize performance with-in short and long term staffing goals

Financial Planning and Management: prepares budgets, capital/infrastructure plans, monitors financial position, seeks external funding opportunities and develops and implements fund-raising plans.

Advocacy: Establish, maintain, and develop links and collaborative research and advocacy relationships with government and non-government agencies, community groups, and others as appropriate

Role Requirements:

● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

● A background police check including vulnerable sector check

● This is an on-site position and not eligible for hybrid work.

Qualifications:

● Post-secondary education with additional training in leadership, financial management, etc.

● Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a related field/position required

● Excellent leadership skills

● Experience with financial statements, budget management, project management and human resources management

● Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage etc.

● Experience with grant writing and fund raising an asset

● Familiarity with the local community and its resources.

● Bilingual (French and English) is an asset
