Overview of the Role

Based in our Athlone dealership and reporting directly to the Service Manager, the General Operative is responsible for supporting the efficient day-to-day operations of the dealership workshop and forecourt. Key duties include tyre fitting, wheel balancing, wheel alignment, vehicle movements and providing general operational support to ensure a safe, clean and customer-focused environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not restricted to the following:

Tyre and Wheel Services:

• Remove and fit tyres on a range of passenger and commercial vehicles.
• Carry out wheel balancing to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform wheel alignment checks and adjustments using dealership equipment.
• Inspect tyres for wear, damage and safety concerns.
• Maintain tyre stock and ensure correct storage procedures are followed.
• Ensure all tyre and wheel-related work is completed safely and accurately.

Vehicle Management:

• Move vehicles around the dealership premises, including workshop, forecourt, valeting area, and customer collection points.
• Prepare vehicles for customer handover as required.
• Assist in vehicle collections and deliveries when necessary.
• Conduct basic vehicle checks before movement to ensure roadworthiness.

General Operational Duties:

• Assist workshop technicians and service advisors with operational tasks as required.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workshop, tyre storage areas and dealership grounds.
• Support vehicle valeting and preparation activities when required.
• Participate in health and safety inspections and maintain a safe working environment.
• Dispose of tyres and workshop waste in accordance with environmental and company procedures.
• Undertake additional ad hoc duties as reasonably required by management.

Health & Safety:

• Comply with all dealership health and safety procedures.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Report hazards, incidents or accidents promptly.
• Ensure all equipment is used and maintained safely.

Requirements

• Full clean drivers licence.
• Good understanding of vehicle and tyre safety.
• Previous experience in tyre fitting, wheel balancing, or a similar automotive environment.
• Basic mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
