Canadian Geospatial is a hydrographic and geospatial services company specializing in advanced mapping and environmental monitoring. We use drones, LiDAR, sonar, GIS, and surveying technologies to support environmental, engineering, mining, and infrastructure projects across Western Canada.

Our work includes aerial mapping, bathymetric surveying, 3D terrain modelling, drone imaging, and geospatial data analysis for rivers, lakes, industrial ponds, shorelines, and infrastructure corridors.

Position Summary

The Geomatics Technician – Photogrammetry will assist with drone imagery processing, GIS mapping, field surveys, and geospatial data management. Working alongside experienced staff, the successful candidate will gain hands-on experience with UAVs, photogrammetry, LiDAR, GIS, and remote sensing technologies.

This position provides an opportunity to develop practical skills in aerial mapping, geospatial data processing, and field operations while contributing to real-world environmental and industrial projects.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Photogrammetry & Data Processing

  • Organize and prepare aerial imagery datasets
  • Assist with creating orthomosaics, 3D models, and point clouds using photogrammetry software
  • Perform quality checks on imagery and mapping outputs
  • Support integration of drone, LiDAR, and survey datasets
  • Maintain organized project files and backups

GIS & Mapping

  • Import and organize datasets in GIS software such as QGIS
  • Assist with map preparation, digitizing, clipping, and basic spatial analysis
  • Support geospatial database management and project organization

Field & UAV Support

  • Assist with drone survey preparation and equipment setup
  • Help place and collect ground control points (GCPs)
  • Record field notes and assist with safe field operations
  • Support survey, LiDAR, and hydrographic crews as needed

General Support

  • Assist with equipment maintenance and inventory organization
  • Participate in project planning discussions and team meetings
  • Support data management and workflow organization

Qualifications

  • Interest in geomatics, GIS, drones, remote sensing, surveying, or environmental sciences
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work outdoors and in field environments
  • Experience with GIS, drones, mapping, or photogrammetry software is considered an asset but is not required
  • Valid driver’s licence is considered an asset

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial legislation
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment

Pay: $23.00 per hour
