About the Cape Club of Sharon
The Cape Club of Sharon is a private country club with an 18 hole golf course, pool and year round restaurant. The club is part of the Cape Club Collection. The Collection includes the Sharon club, one in Falmouth, MA and one in Palm City, FL. Each club is individually managed under the oversight of the ownership group, a Chief Operating Officer and a Director of Agronomy. The club in Sharon is capped at 350 members and averages 23,000 rounds per year.
Position Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent will oversee the care, and daily maintenance of our golf course and surrounding grounds. This position is a key member of the club’s leadership team, working closely with the Director of Golf, General Manager and Director of Agronomy to ensure both day-to-day excellence and long-term success. We are looking for a leader who is not only skilled in agronomy and turf management but also shares our passion for creating an outstanding club experience for our members. The Superintendent reports to the Director of Agronomy and General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide and maintain superior playing conditions across the golf course and the conditions of surrounding property, including townhomes located on the property.
- Lead and develop a talented maintenance team, including Crew Supervisor, Mechanic, and Grounds Crew.
- Prepare and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for golf course maintenance.
- Plan and direct practices including mowing, aeration, topdressing, irrigation, and pest management.
- Ensure proper application, storage, and documentation of all fertilizers and chemicals.
- Maintain and repair the course’s irrigation and drainage systems.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of all equipment, ensuring reliability and longevity.
- Foster a culture of safety, training all staff and enforcing best practices.
- Communicate regularly with the General Manager and membership regarding course conditions and upcoming projects.
- Partner with the event team to ensure outstanding conditions for an active golf event calendar.
- Uphold environmental stewardship practices in line with federal, state, and local regulations.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of turfgrass management experience (private club or resort preferred).
- Strong leadership and staff development skills.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, horticulture, turfgrass science, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- GCSAA membership is preferred.
- Knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, and expense management.
- Understanding of agronomic practices, irrigation systems, and equipment maintenance.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Valid Driver’s License required; pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain.
Working Conditions
- Hands-on position requiring periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- Exposure to fertilizers, pesticides, dust, and mechanical/electrical hazards.
- Requires extended hours, weekends, and holidays during peak golf season.
