Summary
The GPS Technician aids stringless paving by setting up total stations, shooting in control points, checking grade, making adjustments based on the checks and maintaining total stations ahead of the paver to keep the project running smoothly.

Essential Functions

1. Ability to securely setup and level tripods to backsight in control points
2. Ability to assemble and disassembled sensitive equipment correctly and store properly each day.
3. Check grade multiple times throughout each project, providing feedback to the foreman and/or operator to make sure grade is accurate before conducting work on the job.
4. Communicates with paving foreman on schedules to ensure all equipment is set up and working properly prior to crew arriving for the workday.
5. Must be able to understand plans for paving projects so that the total stations and control points are in efficient locations.
6. Ability to read a cross section in a plan set and convert between inches and tenths of a foot and subtract an offset for the correct grade.
7. Ability to maintain a level head while up against tight deadlines and increased productivity.
8. Amplified level of detail, making sure all information has been added accurately.
9. Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and correctly.
10. Be able to keep track of and upload job files into the machines.
11. Properly follow all state and federal agencies safety procedures.
12. Promote and complies with all company safety policies and procedures, bringing problems to the attention of the foreman, project manager, safety director or HR manager.
13. Maintain certifications required by all state and federal agencies and company safety programs.
14. Collaborate and working with project managers, construction crews, and government agencies when necessary.
15. Maintain professional attitude with owners, inspectors, public and company personnel.
16. Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.
**MUST PASS PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREEN**
Required Education and Experience
1. Sufficient education to create appropriate arithmetic equations and complete written documentation, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and characteristics.
2. Knowledge of construction industry.
3. Ability to work from construction specifications and blueprints.
4. Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. High School diploma or GED
2. Experience with Topcon field equipment and data collection software or 3D paving
3. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D software
4. Degree in Land Surveying, Surveying Engineering, Geospatial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
