Ground Worker

Our Client seeks groundworkers who play a crucial role in the construction industry. They will be responsible for preparing and maintaining construction sites before, during, and after building projects.

Job Overview

Groundworkers are typically the first and last tradespeople on a construction site, responsible for preparing the ground for structural work and finishing tasks after construction is complete

Key Responsibilities

Site Preparation

- Conduct site investigations to assess soil conditions and potential issues.

- Clear construction sites by removing topsoil and levelling the ground

- Excavate and dig trenches for foundations using manual tools or heavy machinery

- Create temporary or permanent drainage systems

Foundation Work

- Lay foundations, including block flooring and piling

- Construct retaining walls when necessary

- Ensure the site can withstand heavy construction and hold structures in place

During Construction

- Assist in creating the layout and structure of the building

- Install drainage systems and service ducts

- Set up the construction site, including creating pathways and erecting safety barriers

Post-Construction Task

- Landscape the area around the site

- Create driveways, car parks, and footpaths

- Remove waste materials and ensure site safety

Skills and Competencies

- Ability to follow instructions and read site plans

- Problem-solving skills to address issues that arise during site clearing

- Basic numeracy skills for measurements and calculations

- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

- Physical stamina and strength

Qualifications and Requirements

- No formal qualifications are strictly required, but the following are beneficial:

- English

- Safe Pass

- Manual handling

- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card

- Valid driving license required

- Primarily outdoors at construction sites

- Exposure to various weather condition

- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory

- May involve working with noisy machinery and in dusty environments

Working Hours

Typically, 38-48 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime and weekend work depending on project requirements.
