Role

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction.

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

  • Perform safety inspections, maintenance and light repairs as directed
  • Minor plumbing (leaky taps), minor electrical (light globe replacement), minor plastering and painting, ect. Significant electrical and plumbing works will be handled by our licenced contractors.
  • Manage the use and maintenance of equipment within a work area.
  • Regular garden maintenance (ie: lawn mowing, whipper snippering, weeding, rubbish pickup, leaf collection, pruning).
  • Minor landscaping.


Responsibilities

At this level we are looking for a grounds and maintenance person who cannot only help with the maintenance and upkeep of facilities and grounds but show compliance with the rules and requlations.

The grounds and maintenance position in the school community is to be able to communicate effectively and develop a good relationship with staff members, students and contractors at all levels.

The grounds and maintenance position will undertake personal and professional development opportunities to enhance the position.

The grounds and maintenance position are required to work flexibly and reliably within tight timelines and with minimal direction in a team environment.

It is important that the grounds and maintenance position operates in a professional, courteous and efficient manner at all times, respecting confidentiality.

The role of the grounds and maintenance employee wil be to maintain the grounds and maintenance at 2 schools.

3 days per week at Avondale Primary School

2 days per week at Aberfeldie Primary School

Location Profile

Avondale Primary School is located in Avondale Heights, situated 12 kilometres north-west of Melbourne¿s CBD. The school opened in 1961 with enrolments progressively increasing to the current 2024 figure of 440 students with approximately 25% of students speaking a language other than English at home.

Avondale Primary School; a community that strives for excellence through high quality learning, engagement and wellbeing is our School Vision. We promote an inclusive environment in which every student feels safe, happy, engaged and motivated to attend school and excel in their learning. Our school values are Respect, Responsibility and Learning.

The Victorian Curriculum underpins student learning, engagement and wellbeing and is the focus of our PLCs. Our PLCs plan consistent, rigorous student learning experiences using data to drive this planning. This year has seen further embedding of Respectful Relationships across the school and the continued focus on ensuring a Child Safe and positive and environment through School Wide Positive Behaviours approach.

In 2024 we have 29 teaching staff and 18 educational support staff. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are supported by the School Improvement Team of Principal, Assistant Principal, and Learning Specialists in Curriculum and Pedagogy, Mental Health and Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion. Specialist teachers include AUSLAN, Physical Education, Science and The Arts (Visual & Performing) alongside our Tutor Learning Initiative with a part time tutor and an intervention teacher. We value the expertise and experience all staff members bring to our school. We are committed to their development with Professional Learning offered in student achievement, wellbeing, engagement and leadership. Staff are provided with opportunities to participate in peer observation, mentoring and induction programs. There are currently ten grades in Foundation-Grade 2 and eleven grades in Grades 3 - 6. We encourage and promote lifelong learning through student voice and agency.

We are an accredited school under DE¿s International Student Program and implement the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan to support the engagement, attendance, wellbeing and achievement of our Koorie learners.

Avondale Primary School acknowledges the importance of strong relationships with families and the broader school community and their value as partners in learning. We have an active School Council that meets eight times each year, extended by a number of sub committees, including Fundraising, Finance and Education. Parents and carers are encouraged to participate in school governance and policy development.
