Introduction:
The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Grounds and Maintenance Worker to support the day-to-day upkeep, enhancement and operation of various properties located within the Hunter Valley.

About the Role

As the Grounds and Maintenance Worker, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all stakeholders and visitors to the sites. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

General grounds and garden maintenance
Routine building maintenance and repairs
Daily caretaking duties at our site, including opening and closing for events
Conduct necessary checks and inspections to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and well-maintained.
Ensuring facilities and outdoor areas are presented to a high standard

We’re Looking For Someone Who:
Proficiency in online maintenance systems to manage work orders, track repairs, and log asset history.
Has experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or a similar hands-on role
Exhibits a proactive attitude and a strong work ethic
Proficient in general handyman tasks across a variety of trades.
Is reliable, self-motivated, and takes pride in their work
Can safely operate tools and equipment related to grounds and building maintenance
Has good communication skills and is comfortable working independently
Has strong problem-solving abilities, time management, and the ability to work independently or liaise with external contractors.
Can work autonomously, using initiative and without direct supervision.
Is flexible and adapts quickly in a dynamic environment.
Prioritise, work under pressure and to deadlines.

Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Grounds Person/Caretaker is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the Singleton Convent and Aged Care Facility and manage minor maintenance at various Early Education Centres. They will contribute to the effective and efficient operation and environment at Singleton and other sites by providing a high level of maintenance and upkeep of the grounds and buildings. They will be required to support the sites with (including but not limited to) building and grounds maintenance, minor repairs and opening/closing the Singleton site.

The incumbent commits to working within Work Health and Safety guidelines and Code of Conduct at all times whilst in the employ of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

Skills and Experiences:
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Typically, medium to heavy range physical demand level
  • Constantly stands and walks and generally moves about the worksite as required (does not usually sit down).
  • Forward reaching is an occasional to frequent requirement.
  • Squatting or crouching movements are likely to be performed occasionally as part of work tasks.
  • Body or neck twisting is likely to occur on an occasional basis.
  • Contact with skin irritants and water may occur given the varied tasks and physical contact with a range of substances and building materials.
  • Lifting, carrying and pulling or pushing is likely to be an occasional to frequent requirement.
  • Bending is frequent for positions of this type, especially when lifting is required.
  • Climbing of ladders or steps while carrying loads is also likely to be an occasional to frequent requirement.
  • Repetitive movements are occasionally required for many tasks such as shoveling, operation of machinery, hammering or using nail, rivet or staple guns.
  • Driving is required on occasional basis.
  • Use of a wide range of hand tools of a simple, mechanical and electrically driven nature is constant including grasp and full upper limb range of motion.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience maintaining large property sites
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Trade qualification in either carpentry, plumbing or electrical.
  • Working With Children’s Check
