As part of DP World’s strategy of making global trade flow, we are investing in products that will digitize the logistics ecosystem, and provide services which will create stickiness importers and exporters to use DP World services. The digital products that we are building are expected to drive billions in revenue, with a high gross margin over the next 3-5 years, and scale exponentially thereafter.

To this end, DP World is building several operating systems to power logistics operations, and innovating in new technologies to make supply chains more efficient.

• Cargoes Ports & Terminals for the core Terminal Operating System
• Warehouse Management Systems
• Transportation Management Systems
• Market access and e-commerce via dubuy.com, and to enable offline commerce as well
• Using Metaverse to be able to solve real world supply chain problems
• Chat Bots, IoT Solutions, Blockchain based transactions
And many more like Rostering, Yard Management, Zone Management

Over the last 2 years, these products and solutions have been developed with an MVP approach, and DP World is in the process of scaling and deploying these across 60+ countries. Each of these products are complex, each product has dozens of microservices, with various workflows, and in addition to enabling the business, they are expected to attract and drive the business.

In this complex application landscape consisting of 100s of microservices, it is important to rationalize software architecture, draw ownership boundaries between various software development teams, keep an eye on preventing duplication of efforts, ensure “build once use many times”, drive operational and software excellence across all teams.

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the software architecture across all the logistics operating systems, and emerging technologies. You will be deep in each of these products, standardize development practices, deployment procedures, prevent redundancies, and make architectural decisions for this portfolio. The ideal candidate will have around 15 years of deep software expertise, would have worked in both startups and MNCs, would have built systems from the ground up, would have managed the architecture of a large portfolio of individual teams and services.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Understand and be a champion of DP World’s business and product strategy

• Have a deep understanding, both low level and high level, across a swathe of technologies

• Have built and helped build business systems from the ground up, and having scaled them

• While being strategic, provide a very ‘Hands-on’ technical leadership and mentoring for engineers

• Own the software design, architecture and operational excellence across the operating systems and emerging technologies

• Work with product management and business heads to rapidly iterate on features and grow the business.

• Actively seek to prevent redundancies, while allowing that where appropriate in order to accomplish an effective balance between short term and long term goals

Establish and promote software design and development guidelines, deployment strategies, best practices, and standards

• Responsible for the indirect management and leadership of an engaged team, promoting collaboration and ensuring that each is developed and evaluated against goals and objectives which are aligned, specific, measurable, attainable yet challenging, realistic and time bound.

• Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviors in harmony with DP World’s Founder’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies

• Perform other related duties as assigned
